Fast 35mm primes

I'm looking for a possible alternative to my SMC takumar 2/35. I like the lens a lot but it's real soft wide open and... quite dark. I'm deyellowing it at the moment so that might help the dimness. But anybody have advice on a good alternative? I would prefer a manual focus lens as I will be using it primarily for filmmaking on a canon body. I'm pretty intrigued by the MIR 24...

The Zeiss 35/2 ZK is tack sharp wide open. Also the Samyang 35/1.4 may be something that interests you.

I wouldnt expect russian lenses like the MIR to be too great wide open (some are, but most are not), especially in the wide angle range.

The Zeiss Z*35/2 is supposed to be the best for filmmaking (ZE version on Canon),
since it doesn't "breathe" when you focus.
I use the ZK35/2 on a Pentax K-x as my "standard" lens
if I don't need the compactness or macro of the DA 35 Ltd.

While a good lens, the FA35 is neither tuned specifically for manual focus nor as sharp @f/2 as the Zeiss/Samyang per the OPs requests. Still a great lens nonetheless, and certainly could be considered. There's also the A35/2, which may warrant research.

Thanks for the thoughts... actually I'm no fan of the Zeiss. It's sharp but in a really modern way. I get a bit of an uncanny valley feeling from it. I have mostly older glass, a lot in M42 and I love the classic photographic feeling of them. But the wides tend to be less good than the normal & tele ones - and a lot slower...

I'm not looking for amazing sharpness (for example I find my SMC Tak 50/1.4 useable wide open). But something a bit less blooming and soft than the tak 35/2.

Does anyone have experience of either the Vivitar 35/1.9 or the MIR-24 35/2?

In my experience, the ZK 35/2 has a classic look.

The new Z*35/1.4 may be different
(available for Canon, but not for Pentax),
and I do see something like what you describe
in this 9MB sample from Optyczne/Lenstip:
