I use Hoya PRO, but there is no substitute for a good lens hood.

flare comes from light bouncing around inside the lens, no filter can stop flare if such a magical filter existed, i'd love to throw it on my da*55...

I really want to find good reason to buy the 16-50, looks like I run out of excuses.

Flare is often caused by filters, or at least made worse, especially by cheap ones. What you need is a lens hood. A CPL is good for many things, darkening the sky, reducing glare from reflections off water or plant leaves but not flare. Get a good lens hood and keep it on the lens.

I really don't find flare on the 16-50 to be that bad as long as you don't put filters in front and keep your front element clean. I know others have reported more problems with it, but it isn't that bad...

Aren't the stock one good enough? It breaks my heart to read the Pentax, sigma and Tamron shoot out. A wr 16 50 is important to me. Maybe the mark II is around the corner.

Leave the lens cap on. The only way to gaurantee no flaring when shooting into the light.

Use the hood and also shade the lens from direct sunlight if it is outside your frame of view.
I have found that any filter, even the best CPL can only make it worse not better.

I think it is 16mm f8. However flare is pretty much the same as that from f4 on.

I use my DA*16-50 quite a bit with my K7, sometimes with the K5, and I have yet to report continuous flare with that combo.

I do NOT use a filter and I make sure the hood is used as well.
I have used filter(s) with this lens but I found that it caused quite an IQ hit ! And the filter(s)
were of excellent quality too.
