Fa 80-320

Hello members!

I need information on a Dead FA 80-320 with the following simptons:

Only works on program Av and sends the message F--;
autofocus doesn´t works;
slight friccion on zoom action between 80 - 100 then increases beyond that point and maintains till 320.

this appens in K10D and was tested in another body besides mine with same simptons.

would appreciate any comments on this case.

PS: Sorry for the grammar, english is a little rusty...

Welcome to the forum. I remember seeing something about this lens not working. It had something to do with the chip in the lens. Maybe someone else can fill in the rest of the puzzle. Your english is fine.
thanks

Double check that your aperature ring is fully rotated to the A position. If it slips even a little, you'll get those symptoms - at least that's what happened to me when I used that lens.

I have an 80-320, which has mostly given me some fine images ( see attached ).....the f____ thing as i recall has somethng to do with permitting aperture rind when shooting in manual mode, which imo yeilds better results. seems the motor in this lens is fast and hard, and likes to refocus alot . as stated earlier setting the ring to the A position and the af mode to af.s unless your shooting continuous which would then be af.c,,,,should solve your probs if your shooting in af mode. I mostly do manual, so it doesn't affect me too much.

I have the 80-320 as well.... It is a really good lense for the price.

I would agree on the positve manual focusing for this lense. It focuses really fast and tends to jump around a bit before making up its mind, particuarly over 250ish.

Hopefully it will work for you - its a great zoom.

I took the thing to the Pentax assistance, they tried it an d told me that the inner chip might be busted, but besides that, the aperture ring wen not im A position should impose the correct aperture dialed to the diafragm blades, or this only apens with the lens in the body?
That´s because i have a 35-80 of the same original kit and as you rotate the ring the aperture follows, witch doesn´t on the 80-320 (off body on both).
