The obvious answer to every thread like this is the DA 55-300.
I think it is probably the best value Pentax zoom lens available new today.

The 50-135 is what you want for lower light or indoor sports and step up in image quality. As you would expect it is significantly more expensive and quite a bit heavier, 2 reasons why I don't have one. The people that have it seem to love it though almost without exception.

I'll be taking my DA 55-300 to Argentina next week. I'll try to get some shots to close the case :-)

Despite owning some firepower in that focal range (Sigma EXII 70-200/2.8 and DA* 300/4.0) the compactness and low weight of the 55-300 is the clincher for travel. Along with my K-01, DA 10-17, Sigma 17-70, DA 40 and FA 77, the whole lot fits into a bum bag (fanny pack for you Americans) with room to spare.
