I was also lucky in procuring one of these lenses here on the Marketplace a couple weeks ago.

While I am not normally a WA shooter, I just love the colors and rendering of this lens. Actually with the folks here who are actively seeking one, I was thinking that I might sell mine as it won't see much use with me. So I took it out this morning for a little stroll and reinforced my original decision for buying it - I'll be keeping it!

The only one I see available now on-line is at Amazon from a 3rd party vendor for $900 Pentax DA 12-24mm f/4 ED AL (IF) Lens for Pentax and Samsung Digital SLR's: Camera & Photo

Congrat on your purchase as you are one of those alert buyers; I am sure you will be happy with that, I used this lens primarily on trips to Asia in the past. The good thing about this is that you can use it wide-open at all focal length and get excellent results. It also exhibits little or no discernible distortion on the wide-end; the thing I like the range is that 24mm is most useful for me than 10mm as others have used the 10-20mm lens from another brand.
There was another thread just a few titles below this and someone there had alerted to B&H having them in stock, so thanks to an alert PF member I was able to get mine.

My single most favorite focal length is 24mm, and I had mentioned EXACTLY what you said before. I am buying the 12-24 for the 24 and not the 12 (eventhugh the wide end is useable). I've had the 10-20 before but used it very sparingly.

I am taking this lens to Alaska in may.

BH is taking orders on the newest version of the Sigma 12-24 which is splash proof as well (their version of WR) for $949. It's also FF compatible.the older version not WR is still available for order at 829 (and they have some used from 699)
not a constant aperture is it's biggest drawback )4.5-5.6)

It is possible there is a new model coming from Pentax (the roadmap shows a wide zoom)
so I emailed Sigma about the new 12-24 150 macro and 120-300 2.8 all of which BH has listed as coming. the response was they aren't available and they don't know when they will go into production

so BH has a phantom listing because it looks like no time soon

The Pentax 12-24 is actually weakest at it's long end, > 20mm it's a tiny bit soft wide open. It's razor sharp wide open at the wide end though.

I have a Pentax 12-24. I thought about the Sigma 10-120, etc....but in the end it was the Pentax. It was reviewed by Popular Photography and has been rated by them as the best of the bunch when it comes to ultra wide zooms.

They're not kidding. Mine is ar fabulous. I generally use it for taking pics of vintage's an exceptional lens.

Availability...I ordered mine at a camera store...took a week to come in...back in Spring 2010. I was at my local camera store on Friday....there was another the stock.

A friend ordered one (along with a Pentax 100 WR) in the was either in stock at the store or came in quickly through an order.

I'm in's not hard to get.
