DA16-45 vs DA18-55

Hey guys,

Believe it or not: I have had an offer to buy a K10d camera with a lens to go with it. Here is the strange part: I can choose whether I want a 16-45 or a 18-55, without any influence on the price.

Is that choice as easy as it seems (get the 16, get the 16, get the 16! ) ? I have the 18-55 already and look forward to having those 2mm more of wide angle. Is there any more advantage on this lens? Is it technically better, does it produce better images?

Anyone done a shootout between the two?

Hi Syb,
A well discussed topic from time to time that has very firmly concluded that the 16-45 is a much superior lens. Suggest you do a search in the 'lens' forum.
Cheers

Like 18-55 very much.
light and lower price.
It is sharp when increase JPG sharp and contrast
When I use 35mm and F4.5 to F8, this lens take excellent photo as same as many expensive lens

If want perfect photo,I think FA35 or DA40 is the best choice.
I still use 18-55 although I have many expensive lens than 18-55.

By they way, I never use SMC 16-45 .

At no additional cost? Get the 16-45!

Get the 16-45. The only drawback would be when the lens is extended to the 16-24 (I think its 24) range the on-board flash will create a shadow on your photos.

Get the drift, Syb?
Others have valued the 16-45 so much that I've gone ahead and bought the lens separately, and I'm sure the 18-55 will see much less action when it arrives...

If the cost to you is the same its a no-brainer.. I have owned both and it would be the 16-45 without a doubt.

Thanks for all your replies. I chose for the 16-45 too. Now it's the question whether the seller will agree to sell the lens seperately. I guess he will... I wil keep you informed on the final price I pay for the lens alone.
