Yes, def a need for WR on more lenses. Why buy 55-300 when it is not WR, not many options unless your going for the best glass$$$.

Just as a general thing, I think Pentax ought to have WR versions of every zoom.. from 10mm on up. They wouldnt have to be DA*, just WR for most of us would be quite sufficient, and that would keep the costs down as well. Judging from the price of the existing WR, cost of manufacture/cost of purchase must not be much of an issue... so why not just WR everything?

This is a YES from me. I would like all pentax lenses to be WR and if these can be done to all pancake primes....then it will be the first among manufacturers i think? How about a DA *15 or a DA *35 Ltd. How cool is that

I did just notice that i have dust in sensor...yes all lenses WR even very simpified WR to all lenses tnx

Anyway how much that would add extra to lens prices, 18-55 WR kit lens is very very cheap...just do it Pentax!

In fact I would like Pentax to do an even bolder step. Don't just say the lens is WR or weatherproof or whatever. Actually qualifying the lens to have a interntional IP rating will be even better. I mean cellphones can have IPXX weatherproof rating...why not lenses

I'm not sure how well any of the lenses or camera/lens system would do. The lens/camera interface is a pretty weak link in the weatherproofing regardless of the gasket. I said it before but I agree with jippo that every lens should at a minimum have the gasket to protect the camera. Making the lenses water resistant would likely require significant design work but the gasket should be an easy upgrade.

Why get a WR camera if 75% of the lenses (and none of the ltd's) are not WR?

Good idea. Btw once i did try to find out what Nikon lenses have some weatherproof and how good protection is that. I could not find exact answer so i did stop even thinking about Nikon...

Optically, it is a good lens. I think it is better than the 50-200mm. I would like to have a WR or DA* prime 28mm or wider. I think a WR version of the 55-300 could replace the 50-200.

First off the DA55-300 needs a WR version, its a no brainer with the 18-55WR. As Blue mentioned above it is a better imaging device than the 50-200. I would also rebody the 50mm Macro along the lines of the 100mm WR version.

I'd love to see another general purpose zoom for travel that is WR. The current crop of super-zooms, ala the 18-200's and 18-250's aren't my cup of tea since I need the wide much more often than the telephoto. I think a 15-85 WR would suit me just fine. Canon makes a stabilized lens at this length but it isn't WR.

Hmm... 15-85, WR, *and* constant aperture of.. what.. f/2.8? Nice. I would sell all my other lenses for this, if it existed. I seem to do 95% of my shooting inside this range. Yep, good call, Benson

I wish the 18-55 WR was as good optically as the 55-300mm.

The whole line up needs to be rethought be honest, there is too much confusion and subtypes. The 18-55 comes in DAL, DA & DA WR, 50-200 again with DAL, DA & DA WR. While I won't say they are mediocre, they are a strange couple to be WR'd. I can see the need as a kit bundle for the K30D & K-5 but why 3 types?
Here is what I would attempt to do if I was in lens planning in Ricoh / Pentax...

Non WR Entry Level
DAL 18-55
DAL 50-200
DAL 24?
DAL 35
DAL 50
DAL 85?

Entry Level WR for Kits
DA WR 18-55
DA WR 50-200

Intermediate Level
DA WR 12-24 (Highly Rated)
DA WR 17-70 (Another better than average zoom)
DA WR 55-300 (Crying out to be WR'd)
DA WR 560??? (What designation is this going to have?)
DFA WR 50 f/1.4? (DAL'd, why not a new alloyed body job)
DFA WR 35 f/2.0? (DAL'd, why not a new alloyed body job)
DFA WR 24 f/2.8? (Sorely needed in the lineup)
DFA WR 14 f/2.8 (The forgotten lens in Pentax's lineup, seems rated by those who have it)

Pro
DA* 12-16?
DA* 16-50
DA* 50-135
DA* 55
DA* 60-250 (Wonder why Pentax went off course with this one!)
DA* 135-250? (Seems a more logical lens in the line up than the 60-250)
DA* 85?
DA* 135?
DA* 200
DA* 300

Macro
DFA WR 50 (Easily doable, don't forget the rounded blades )
DFA WR 100 (Done and liked)
DFA* WR 200? (How many would actually go for it?, too good, too expensive to make?, maybe it did not use Hoya glass? )

DA limiteds
DA 15 (Stellar)
DA 21 (Hmm)
DA 35 Macro (Immense in the right hands)
DA 40 (Sharp, prefer the 43 myself)
DA 70 (prefer the 77 myself)
DA 105?

FA Limiteds - Leave well alone, just make sure QC is perfect!!!
FA 31
FA 43
FA 77

I can understand what Pentax was trying to do with the DAs 16-45 (24-70), 50 (75), 55-300 (80-450) or 16-50 (24-75), 55 (80ish), 60-250 (90-375) or 16-50, 50-135....logical then would be 135-250 or 300)
That leaves 2 lens outstanding, 10-17 (still available?) 18-135? bah..

In the lens roadmap, there seems to be a DA* in the 16-85 range in the design phase (hopefully)... that could be the one a lot of people are waiting for
