Stopping down sharpness

What is the widest aperture, without compromising corner to corner sharpness, available from current Pentax lineup?

No question ! Gotta agree with twitch here.
For a fast lens The 31 F1.8 is superb.
Wide open its into very good levels accross the frame.
Stop down to 2.8 and its entering excellent levels.
On top of all that it has very low CAs etc.
Its only weakness is high vignetting wide open.
This lens alone is almost reason enough to buy into pentax !

Without compromising sharpness is where it's hard to answer... define "compromising"... Some lenses will be leagues better when stopped down, but still outperform entry-level lenses wide open. Other (like most macro lenses) show only a limited improvement when stopped down, but are already great wide open (but don't open as wide). It's a subjective question.

Ill posed question.

A crappy lens that performs crappy in the center and in the field just sucks, but does not compromse any IQ wide open.

So what are you looking for. Typically you should look for a macro lens, but what angle of view or focal length are you interested in?
