Opinions on the screwmount pentax m28?

I have an opportunity to buy one for $80...anyone compare 28s? I have a tamron 28, but I bet the pentax is sharper than the adaptall. It is a radioactive lens too.

28mm is my favorite focal length so far, so I'm just looking for a better lens....

Also...with the m42 adapter will it stop down to meter or is the lens stopped down constantly with the adapter? Never used a screwmount to k adapter before....

When you twist the aperture dial, the viewfinder gets darker. On the plus side, you don't have to press a green button to meter. Just put the camera in Av or P mode, and it just works.

Also, the mount adapter is in stock:

(of course, my one from ebay arrived the same day as it became available new).

Your thread title is Opinions on the screwmount pentax m28?
The SMC-M lenses (like M28s) are bayonet mount, not screwmount.
Screwmount Pentax lenses are labeled Takumar (not Takumar Bayonet).
Check the user review database here to see what we think of these 28s.
I like my M28/2.8 but my other 28s in various mounts see more use.

As has been mentioned above, the Pentax-M 28s are K-mount lens. I have never shot or handled any of the three models.

If, however, you are considering a M42 Takumar 28/3.5, I do have experience with that lens. I also own the Tamron 28/2.5 (02B). Both are very capable lenses, but my vote goes to the Pentax in this case. It is a sweet piece of glass. Unfortunately, the word seems to be out and prices are going up. The last two examples I followed on eBay both went for over $70 USD.
