Smoke and dust from forest fires in the West give unusual colors to sunsets.

135 mm FL St Lawrence evening scene at f/8, f/11 and f/16 : all sharp !

I tried the same scene at 3 different openings to see if any aperture was better than the others. They turned up all very sharp and none seems to have an edge over the other two (check EXIF).

Another try : DA 18-135 mm @ 21 mm FL, f/8, f/11 and f/16 compared : all sharp !

I tried another view of the St Lawrence in the evening hours at 21 mm focal length, exposing at f/8, f/11 and f/16 (check EXIF). All images turned very well.

Today, I took 6 pictures at 18 mm FL and at all the aperture openings available on the DA 18-135 mm ED WR on my K3. The upper one was taken @ f/11, the optimum aperture. The 5 other images below were shot at f/22, f/16, f/8, f/5.6 and f/4 (EXIF). Obviously, f/4 and f/22 should be avoided, all other apertures are highly usable. Sharpness suffers a little at f/4 although the image is not too bad and f/22 begins to be diffraction-limited. The 2 images made at f/4 and f/5.6 seem a little "overexposed" and less saturated while the one taken at f/22 is the most saturated. I can't explain this oddity.

DA 18-135 mm ED WR 18 mm FL, 1/80 sec @ f/11 : OPTIMUM. The image is uniformly very satisfactory.

Hollywood Studios

Just going through some images from earlier this year and thought I'd add one here. This image and the rich blues and nice contrast show what this underrated lens can do. 28mm f/8 on the K-70, a little PP in PhotoNinja. I doubt I'd be able to tell the difference if this was taken with the 20-40.

Ooopppsss!!! It was low tide on the St Lawrence River and some normally submerged rocks were showing up. I should have cropped this unwanted element. Thanks for noticing.
