Yeah, I still like to shoot with my old A lenses too. Just did a nice panorama with a $40 Sears 135mm last weekend. That lens is great in the right situation.

But I have to say I like the 18-135 for it's versatility. I was taking it skiing today but had to stop on the drive for this moon setting over the mountain and cabin.

My son's (and therefore also my) ski buddy letting it fly today. These kids are 10 and this is a double black diamond run. If they stick with it they are going to be amazing in 10 years. Or five.

Afternoon walk

The DA 18-135 in rainy weather at sunset: 53 mm, ISO 400, 1/125, f9.5. I'm constantly amazed by this lens - and it's so handy as a landscape lens in inclement weather.

Erica at dusk

For a slow lens, the DA 18-135 produces not bad bokeh, helped by being able to focus close: 40mm, 1/350, f4.5, ISO 400.

First time for this lens of the K-3 as I have been occupied with the Single in December challenge where the FA31 pretty much didn't come off.

Once you work out how to control the vignetting when wide open, or control the heavy barrel distortion at 18mm and the pin cushioning from 100-135mm focal length, it's actually a nice versatile, fun lens to use and is nice for portraits. Seems to have a nice sweet spot in the 24-50mm range.

pin cushioning at 100-135 ?.. I don't feel like it is critical or so.
barrel at 18mm - yes, but check canon zooms in such a price category, you will be surprised how good your lens is..

Having a fun ski day on Saturday with friends at Silverton. Fun but really cold! It was a struggle to not freeze, K-3 and 18-135 kept going! It was in the single digits F with high winds for very cold windchill temps!

Well you're right because adjustments can be made in post processing, so it isn't all that critical.

My photography is ocean based, so ocean horizons don't look too striking with a barrel distortion at 18mm or pin cushioning at the longer end of the focal length. But yep...just enable profile adjustments and you can turn any half decent performing lens into a really good one! I take reviews with a grain of salt - however, this review is spot on regarding this lens. Pentax SMC-DA 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 ED AL [IF] WR - Review / Lens Test

I'm not trying to play devils advocate. As I said before, the strength of this lens is that it is very versatile and the WR for many people would be worth its weight in gold. For many, this may be the only lens that they need. But can I point out that when this lens was first released, it actually cost more than a limited lens. It's massively reduced now (because it was massively overpriced), but ultimately, it is a kit lens, but it can be fun to use...

Cheers

Have you arrived to Vietnam yet? Which city/province will you be staying/travellig to?
