Very nice trails! Also the bridge photo! These samples show that the DA 18-135 has great potential!

Nice star trails there over Rainier! I've only tried to use this lens for a night long exposure once and couldn't get the focus right in the dark. I had nothing good to lock focus on with AF and there's no indication on the lens to show where infinity is if I went MF.

How did you do it?

I pre-focused on the foreground while there was still some light, and switched the lens to MF to keep it from adjusting. It was my first effort with star trails, I was pretty happy with how it turned out. I ended up shooting about 100 frames at 30 sec. each.

These are very awesome photos - so thanks a lot for sharing. Good to know my lens has the ability to be that great - now to produce those amazing shots myself!!

You should be, it's a great shot!
My mistake when I tried with it was starting long after dark. I usually just do those with other lenses that are better for manual focus. This is one of the few things I'm not happy with for this lens but the pluses still outweigh the minuses by a long shot.

Great photos. I was on the fence about this lens since I have the 18-55 WR on my K-5 II, but the photos on this thread have made me a believer.

Yes, not perfect, but a very good lens at the price, especially if you get it as a kit with a new camera. The pictures tell the story. Sharpness, punch, and pop, at the expense of some edge sharpness and CA. Not to mention WR and DC.

Those are some nice photos. I like #1, 4, 5, and 6 the best. Numbers 2 and 3 are VERY noisy and underexposed - did you handhold them? If so, next time use a tripod so you can get a longer shutter speed. If not, use the longer shutter speed so the photos are properly exposed (and correct the white balance so the snow is not blue )
Thanks for sharing you photos, and great work

Thnx for comments ausmoose.

Snow can actually have various colors. too blue - maybe. I like to underexpose when shooting in low light just to get similar feeling that the moment had. 2 and 3 were both taken handheld without tripod that is very seldom with me. dont mind the grain that much.

If I remember right there was no post processing on 2nd image - it is how it came out of the camera.

The snow finally stopped yesterday. Crested Butte (28 Miles away) got 7 Feet in 5 days. We got quite a bit here down the valley too.
This mountain overlooking our town hasn't had enough snow to ski since the 07-08 season. It's nice to be back skiing some bike-accessed powder!

My friend has one of those cool fat bikes. Perfect for this.

My approach vehicle is a little more rustic but it did the trick.

I had to break trail all the way up. It took a couple of hours and considerable effort. My house is down there.

Sparkly and pretty on the way up.

Fun on the way back down!
