Climbed and skied a nearby peak today with a couple of friends so I took the 18-135 on my KS-2.

Whoa, that second one looks seriously steep. The recovery must be going well then!

That entrance is steep! It mellows out pretty quickly but it's always a little gripping to come around that bend.
And the recovery is pretty much done! I just need my fitness back; my friends kicked my butt today!

Thanks! This kind of skiing is free once you have the gear but it's not inexpensive gear. Kind of like photography I guess!
The fitness will be back, I just need to do this more.

Vacation snapshots both taken using a K-30 with the 18-135. Other than size reduction, jpegs straight from the camera. The Oasis overlooking Lake Travis outside Austin, TX.

Beautiful. When I first glanced at them, I figured the lens was a 300mm.
I love the 18-135, but these surprised me how good they are.

It was like cheating today. There was a big snow fall, the birds couldn't dig through the snow to get food. They pretty much had to wait for me, then the stormed me. One was feeing two feet from my head. These same little birds that normally I need 400mm and the 1.4 to get.

This is the 18-135, this little guys is two feet from my head. I missed some images with the 70-210, because they were inside minimum focus. When you're that close, sharp is easy. Well, the big problem today was they were so close that when the wings were in sharp focus, the heads were out of focus. Many missed images because of not enough DOF. But when they were on they were on.
K-3 +18-135 ƒ5.6, ISO 400, 1/500s

When you're this close, sharp isn't an issue.

I mostly use primes at home, but got out the 18-135 the other day. Flickr thought it worth an Explore, so the lens can't be all crap, can it...

A walk with the 18-135 on the camera and a 21 and 40s and 50 in your pocket is a real nice confident way to explore the world.

The 18-135 is not a great lens, but that doesn't mean you can't take great pictures with it.

Hey Norm, I am admiring the bokeh on the top photo - even more impressive is EXIF says the aperture was 5.6. Can you recall the rough distance between subject and background? Or what was special about the light? I've never quite managed something like this with the 18-135.
