I climbed a 14er yesterday, 14,155' Tabeguache Peak. I was hoping to do Shavano as well but approaching weather turned me back. Still a nice hike!

The weather caught up but I was in a much less exposed spot by then!

Here's one from up above treeline. Lots of exposure here and I've already summited and am on the way back down and those two are headed into the storm.

One man's nice hike is another man's prolonged hospital stay Always enjoy your photos, so well-composed and of beautiful territory.

Thanks. One does need to work up to these things! 14ers are just conditioning hikes for my upcoming 19er!
I live in a landscape photographer's and adventurer's paradise. Extra nice for me being both of those things.

Thanks Weldon. The pups came close to the boat, so the reach was enough. And it was bucketing rain, so the WR was a great advantage.

Something completely different. Mitchell River NP in East Gippsland, Victoria. It has remnant warm temperate rainforest, from the time when Australia was part of the super-continent Gondwana. It also has beautiful sandstone escarpments.

Back in the saddle again

Out where a friend is a friend ... I spent the last two weeks shooting almost exclusively with a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 that I got for concerts but hadn't used much, so I wanted to get used to it before some shows coming up. Today I put it back in its pouch and got the 18-135 WR on the camera again and it was like seeing an old friend after a prolonged (two weeks, I know, seemed longer) absence. Drizzly off and on throughout the day and evening and we just didn't care.

Tried the lens for the first time on macro type shots at close to the minimum focal length for the lens. Even though it isn't specifically designed or advertised as the most ideal lens for this type of photography I feel it holds its own

The almost imperceptible sound of the DC Focus motor is a real plus for shots like this .

I guess I could have used a little faster shutter speed on the 2nd shot to reduce the motion blur on the bee

K70 & DA 18-135 WR

Very nice examples. I agree, although the bokeh isn't always as pleasant as it is in your shots.

There's a name for the "parallel lines" effect, but I can't remember what it is. Said to be typical of slowish zooms.

Edit: Ah, here it is. Nisen bokeh: http://bokehtests.com/styled/index.html

I see what you mean about the Nisen bokeh it does seem to make a difference

I have a tendency to use a lower ISO 100-400 and a higher F-Stop F14 or higher to increase depth of field when shooting these types of shots maybe that could be causing the difference in the Bokeh.

That's a good tip, David - if the lighting conditions allow.

With the purple flower shot, part of the problem was that it was quite warm and there was a lot of heat haze. Aperture was f8 - maybe a narrower aperture would have reduced the ugly bokeh, but then I wanted subject separation and an out of focus background. Perhaps I should have bracketed the aperture to see what worked best.

This place is called Bear Gully, although it's not easy to find the "bears" (koalas) there any more. Wilson's Promontory in the background, across Waratah Bay.
