Like a lot of treasures in Tassie, Bruny has a feeling of remoteness but is quite accessible. Highly recommended for your next trip south.

Yes @Littlemoose I forgot to ask how the shoulder injury was coming along. You said (earlier in this thread) that you were in a sling until August. Hope everything is improving. Would be a slow rehab I'd imagine.

Central Oz trip would be great. I've never been, but it looks wonderful.

I loaned my K5IIs to my granddaughter for this semester's photography class. I managed to grab it back for a day to get some shots in. Blah day, but it was fun shooting with the K5IIs again after two months of being without it.

My shoulder is on the mend- out of sling into physio. Not to be recommended though.
I hope to be golfing after Xmas.

Thanks for the concern

Great to hear it. You'll be hefting a Bigma on a 10km bushwalk before long.; -)

I bet she's the only one in the class with a Pentax. How does she like it? I would guess that, for still images, the K-5iis and DA 18-135 would hold its own against any more recent entry to intermediate combination.

Being a 14 year old and of the iPhone generation, she was a bit overwhelmed at first. But after showing her around the camera and let her take some shots, she seems to be getting the hang of it. She likes using it, although I'm not sure she likes it
enough to become a dslr shooter, but who knows. But, at least she is learning the fundamentals of photography.

Good to hear. The whole DSLR thing (including PP) would try the patience and attention span of most 14 yo kids, so it sounds like she's doing well.

Very nice set. Pardon my ignorance, but what were the covered bridges for? I've never seen them in Australia, even on timber bridges. Was it to stop snow piling up on the bridge?

Good question. They were covered to protect the wooden structural members from the elements. Supposedly, if they were not covered they would only have a lifespan of 10-15 years because of the effects
of rain and sun. In Ohio, at one time there were upwards of 4000 covered bridges. There are still about 140 still remaining.

Thanks for the explanation. Says a lot about the harshness of the conditions.
