This is my last image this year with the DA 18-135 mm ED. It was just a few minutes before sunset and the light was super contrasty. The lens was set at 135 mm FL, 1/400 sec @ f/11 and it shows surprising overall sharpness. The quality of the light contributes to this impression of sharpness but the lens itself is very sharp at its longest setting.
There have been some excellent shots here recently and this is another. Maybe its time for me to single in my copy (if I can ever stop using the limited lenses that is )

That's amazing, the ice looks marvellous as do the conditions. Congratulations. And a very nice action image to boot.

Here's one from February this year, that's when we're most likely to have ice.

A little lumpy but still fun I'm sure!
My dog absolutely refuses to go on the ice unless there's a lot of snow on top.

This was lumpy indeed; we had a lot of wind just when it started to freeze. Thankfully Raud just loves this, but it is quite exhausting for her so after an hour or so she'll be knackered and just sleep on an insulating matress that we will bring to the ice.

I like the (nearly) monochrome approach to this image. Strange name for a beach, actually.

Thanks Hans. I re-processed this shot and like the monochrome better. Adam Marelli made the comment that if there isn't some combination of warm and cool colours in an image it's usually better in B&W. Without being too dogmatic about it, that's my rule of thumb now. Beaches usually have some warm colour from the sand or rocks and cool from the sky and water (look at the shot by @nicolpa47 immediately above which has a perfect balance), but this one was rather misty and lacking warm colours. Monochrome works because the shapes and contrast are distinctive.

Squeaky Beach is actually an apt name. The sand is made of quartz (it's dazzling white) and it squeaks when you walk on it! Curiously the beaches to the north and south have different sand which is more yellowish and doesn't squeak - but every beach on the Prom is stunningly beautiful in its own way. Thanks for the explanation, Des. I'll try that approach as well. Actually, I wasn't sure whether the image was fully monochrome as there appeared to be a tiny bit of colour. Thanks also for explaining the name of the beach.

Outside Miz MXLX's office. Side note: The camera's .jpg function handled the red better than trying to work from .PEF (RAW). No adjustment made for color.
