X-Post from the K-3iii thread
I discovered this claret cup about a year ago on a bike ride and it's the biggest I have ever seen around here.
This year I'm monitoring it to make sure I catch it at it's peak bloom. It's pretty close now. I planned my Saturday bike ride to be able to stop by and grabbed this shot while taking a little rest.

That hedgehog cactus was a nice find. They're pretty diminutive, but that cluster looks to be a fair size. It's native to zones 9-10, so I wouldn't think it could survive around the Gunnison area. Did someone plant it just for the short summer duration?

It is around the diameter of a beach ball and is wild on some BLM land. They are fairly common in the high desert zone here but usually just in small clusters around rock outcroppings.
Only the south facing side gets covered in those flowers.
It just happened to catch my eye last year in a pretty remote spot and now it's something I like to visit now and then.

Nice desert shots. Although it is no specialized landscape lens I found that the do-it-all can produce punchy contrast and colors in harsh light. My copy even at 18mm up to 70-80mm at f8-f11 is very decent.

Thanks simon_199 This lens has been my go to lens, fist on the K5 and now the KP. I liked the shots, but did not know to, post it on the KP, cloudscape or landscape forums, but I think this thread shows what this lens is capable of. It is one I will replace with a similar one of it decides to die. It wroks very well for me with the KP. We do lat of traveling in the country and it is bouncing around on my lap in the vehicle most of the times

Took mine on a nice hike on the 4th and it performed well! I love the versatility when I need to go light and don't exactly know what I'll be shooting.
