At the Sugar Bowl with DA*50-135 (4 imgs)

I went to see my Dawgs play the Hawaii Warriors in the Sugar Bowl on New Years night. I took my K10D with the DA*50-135 to try to take some shots. I had decent seats but was still a ways from the field. I had a railing in front of me that served as a good brace for my shots. I wanted to see how the lens handled the indoor lighting and distance, and I think it did okay. The extra megapixels on the K10D came in handy as I was able to crop tighter and still get decent shots.

Anyway, here are some of the shots.

Here's an overview of the field with Georgia on offense and Hawaii playing defense. Taken at 55mm, 1/250s, f/3.2, ISO200

Knowshon Moreno carrying the ball into the line. Taken at 135mm, 1/250s, f/3.2, ISO200

Hawaii's record-setting quarterback Colt Brennan was harassed all night when trying to pass. Taken at 135mm, 1/160s, f/4.0, ISO200

Thomas Brown scored Georgia's final touchdown of the game, and the final of his career. Taken at 135mm, 1/200s, f/3.2, ISO200

Final score, Georgia 41, Hawaii 10. Go Dawgs!

We were in the first row of Section 300, which is actually about 5-6 rows back from the railing. We were on the 15 yard line.

We ate at the Palace Cafe one night, Morton's Steakhouse for New Year's Eve, and some small place just inside the Quarter on New Year's Day (had Mardi Gras pasta - I've been there before but didn't catch the name). Food was awesome as usual, and the game was fun for me (though I did feel sort of bad for the Hawaii fans that traveled all that way).

I love New Orleans. I was there back in the spring when "nothing" was going on, and I really had a fun time. I think I like it better when there's "nothing" going on, since I'm older and my liver is a little less tolerant.

Great shots Russ, especially that last one! Love the intentness of the back judge. I'd expect to see a shot like that in a good newspaper. It's too bad pentax is no good for sports!

NaCl(and I can ID about the 'nothing going on' like it a bit quieter myself these days)H2O

Nice! Some really good shots in there! Must of been a good game! I really should get back into college football again.. [ Go TarHeels! ]
But I must say that stadium has some decent lighting! 1/250s, f/3.2, ISO200 for an indoor stadium! Niiice!

Thanks

My Dawgs should've been playing your Trojans. I'd love to go to the Rose Bowl. We haven't been since 1943 (we beat UCLA 9-0). Illinois vs Hawaii and Georgia vs USC would have both been much better matchups.

Thanks Ben. Somehow, I think your shots would've come out alright. At the very least you'd get the most unique shots out there. Maybe you can work a football theme into one of your shoots for next fall.

I agree, but then LSU should NOT have been in the championship game..The Rose bowl is a beautiful place...It is about 3 miles from my home...
