Lens comparison, what do you want to see?

We're due for another comparative lens review- I've got some ideas in case nobody chimes in, but what would you guys like to see?

Here are the comparative lens reviews we've posted so far:

DA* 16-50mm vs. Sigma and Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 Comparison - Introduction - PentaxForums.com
Tamron 90mm Macro vs Pentax 100mm WR: Review - Introduction - PentaxForums.com
DA 12-24mm vs Sigma and Tamron 10-24mm Comparison - Introduction - PentaxForums.com

One more is on its way: the Pentax 17-70mm vs Sigma 17-70mm.

So, you can pick any other lenses and we'll see if we can compare them! They have to be current products, and they have to be comparable- i.e. no comparing apples to oranges

I'd be interested in a comparison of Sigma & Tamron 70-200/2.8's and the DA*200 all at 200, or handicap the DA*60-250 in there at f/4.
Or maybe adding the Sigma 10-20 to the "12-24 review."

If you want to load the deck for Pentax, compare other "goes to 300mm" consumer zooms to the DA 55-300.

(Actually, I'm waiting for some moneyed soul to do the "mother of all tripod comparisons" like Lenstip did with filters.)

panoguy has it close to what I would like to see:

Pentax 60-250
Tamron 70-200
Sigma 70-200

Now the I read panoguy's post again, I see he is trying to keep the playing table even and sticking with 2.8's with the DA*200 which does seem fair.

Anyway, any combination of the above - the 3 lenses I listed have been on my mind for quite a while - in fact almost pulled the trigger on the 60-250 this evening........

How about a comparison of primes in the 30's? i.e. Sigma 30/1.4 vs. Pentax 31/1.8 vs. Pentax 35/2.8... et cetera. I also think a fisheye comparison would be cool.

I think maybe a non premium lens comparison between say the Pentax sigma and tamron 'kit' lenses in the 18-200mm ish range. For those interested in the budget end

I second panoguy's idea of having a version of the Sigma 10-20 included in the ultrawide comparison. Why not throw in the DA15 and DA14 as well? Nice to see how the primes stack up against the zooms...

standard wides: DA21 vs...

"travel zooms"...

DA560 review (when it comes out) vs... would be hot to trot

Good topic and I can think of several, however these are somewhat eclectic comparisons that come up somewhat regularly ....
  • Compare the kit lens against its possible replacements. This would help folks wanting a lens but wanting something else than the kit right off the bat. It would also help folks looking to upgrade from the kit.
  • Compare the various portrait lenses.
  • Compare the DA 12-24 against the DA 14, DA 15, DA 21. There is a pretty regular question of if they should go the zoom or the prime route, and then which prime (or two).
  • Compare the normals - 40, 43, 50 and 55's

I would like to see the better zooms ie Sigma 17-50 HSM OS compared to the primes in that range. Everyone may believe the primes rule but the zooms seem to be catching up.

It would be interesting to see an 18-2xx comparison along with the 18-135.. but perhaps we can wait until the new roadmap model jumps in. Several older 18-200s and Sigma's update too, along with the DA 18-250.

This. Also some prime wars: DA55,FA50,Sigma50/1.4,Voigt 58/1.4,Zeiss 50/1.4.

You could do some legacy glass comparisons. Pick a focal length like 135mm and go to town. Include M42, K mount, Pentax, Russian glass, etc...

This one.

Would love to see how much "better" the DA* 55mm is >=]

I think once you do the 70-200 class teles, I think you should switch to primes. Perhaps the FA 31 Limited vs. the Sigma 30 - only because the Sigma is the budget alternative to the 31 for many Pentaxians. Then perhaps the DA 35 f/2.4 vs. the DA 35 f2.8 Limited vs. the FA 35 f/2.0. The DA 40 Limited vs. the FA 43 Limited? I'm thinking aloud here. Oh... and just for giggles, how about tossing the DA 16-45 in with the DA/Sigma 17-70 contest?

I was gonna be selfish and also suggest the 18-2xx comparison since I am currently in the market

Also, on another selfish note, I would love to see the DA* 55mm stacked up against something since I just picked one up

How about a MF comparison with SMC Pentax 35mm F2, SMC Pentax-A 35mm F2, Voightlander Ultron 40 SL II, Zeiss Distagon T* 2/35 ZK and the Samyang 35/1.4 ?
Maybe leave the Ultron out since it is 40mm or compare it with the DA 40 limited.
