Sigma announces updated 50-150

Found this earlier today that Sigma is finally releasing the updated version of their 50-150mm f2.8. So far, it's only being released for Canon (coming out in April), Nikon (coming out in May) and Sigma mounts, hopefully they'll be releasing one for Pentax soon.

B&H are taking pre-orders on their website here:

This had been mentioned on Digital Photography Review yesterday, but there was no information about anything other than Canon, Nikon, and Sigma versions.

Wow, what a heavy one.

The 50-135 from Pentax weights 1.67 lbs while the 50-150 weighs 2.9 lbs. looks like the size is larger as well.

I own and LOVE the non-OS Sigma 50-150mm f2.8, but I predict that this new version will be a flop.

I mean, the new lens is every bit as big and heavy as most of the 70-200mm f/2.8 lenses, but with less reach. Sure, it can go a little wider, but if I was going to lug around a lens that large and heavy, I would rather have a 70-200mm, and keep a small/fast 50mm (or a standard zoom) with me for when 70mm wasn't wide enough.

They wont release a lens with OS for a camera with built in SR. Newer is not always better either, the tamron none OS 17-50 performs better than there OS version.

Good chance they will. I hope they will, and hopefully it'll be a good improvement over the last one.
