Voigtlander 58/1.4 - shipping yet?

Just wondering if anyone's seen/used this lens yet? It looks very interesting, especially after using the phenomenal 125 Lanthar.

Its shipping in asia, ppl from china and japan and around asia have posted shots with it already, mostly from Nikon cameras.

Im not too impressed so far, the 125 SL is to hard to match. And I dont think any of the fast 50s are that fantastic, a lot of fast 85's are imo fantastic though...

I think it will be a good lens though, just not outstanding. Well, from what I have seen.

The Nokon 58mm f1.4 for PK mount is delayed til mid January. I was quoted that the available date is 14th January.

The pentax mount is only released mid January. Nikon version is already out for some time with impressive bokeh in some of the sample images.

and, not a valid comparison to make with the 125mm as they are quite different lenses in terms of optical construction.

If a comparison is to be made, compare it to the Zeiss Z series. From some side by side images that I have seen, imo the 58mm is actually nicer and has better edge sharpness that the more expensive Zeiss.

Hehe, I agree its not fair to compare the 125 to anything else, but my dream is to have the exact IQ of the 125, minus the macro capability, in lenses to cover the whole focal range, cause now I end up using the 125 for things that its not really practical for and I have to back up really far to get just a head and sholders shot, but I am in love with the unparalelled IQ.

The SL 90 doesnt seem too far away, apart from the slow max aperture. I have seen some tempting images from the 40 as well, but havent been too impressed with the 58 thus far. And as far as the 40 goes I have pretty much decided to go for the FA 43 instead, they cost about the same anyways, both metal lenses, comparable speed, the SL is better wide open, the FA is better stopped down, FA has AF.

The 125 is special, that's for sure. I was hoping that the 58 had made it's way into local circles and that it was as good as the 125. I guess that's not happening.

Is it any better than the FA 50mm f/1.4?

I am sure you had seen the example shots in various fora. I am amazed by the foreground bokeh and its frank sharpness wide open.

I used 125mm macro a lot but I had yet seen the sorts of bokeh coming out of Nokton 58mm f1.4

I cannot wait any more!

p.s. I just got update that Japan has not even started the pentax mount production line for this lens!! More delayed til the end of this month ...

I have been told by the German Voigtlaender distributor that the lenses (for Pentax) will reach Germany in February.
And this is not a limited production. So, there is no need to try to get one of the first copies. There will be enough for everyone, not in Feb. but in March, April ...

Apparently the lens production has been delayed again due to reasons unclear to most distributors.

Thanks for informing that this is not a limited production at all. It seems like a great performer.
