Just Scored Mint Super Takumar 28mm F3.5

I just won an auction for a mint Super Takumar 28mm F3.5 lens. It comes with the metal hood, both end caps and both lens and hood cases. I have pretty much all the Takumars I want now, except for maybe the Super Tak 24mm.

My camera hasn't seen a K mount lens attached to it for many months now

Wow all the Takumars?

Wow, that is a lot of Takumars!

No, I don't have that many, I stated I have all "I" want right now. I know I'll probably get more, but I have all the focal lengths I want at the moment, except for maybe the 24mm.

After seeing those photos though, I might need a few more

Ah I totally misread that part.
Oh well.. at least I got to spread some little LBA germs your way.

PS. I happen to think Takumars are among some of the smoothest lenses ever made. Better than most very high priced lenses even! They're just great.

Would a SuperTak 28/3.5 give better results than my M28/2.8?

There are two versions of the M28/2.8 to my knowledge and each one seems to have its own strengths and weaknesses. However, based on the K 28/3.5 numbers(which is often referenced as sharing the same optical formula as the later SMC Taks), I'm going to go ahead and say yes.

Cool! I had been watching that auction and forgot to bid. Glad it went to a PF member.

There is also Super Takumar 200/4. I have one. Don't use it, though.

There are two models of the Super-Takumar 3.5/28, an early one with 58mm filter thread that has 7 elements in 6 groups and one with a 49mm filter thread that has 7 in 7 and was later made as an SMC. I have a copy of the SMC and must say that while it is not a bad lens, it is my worst Takumar. Sharpness falls off quite dramatically towards the corners. My Super-Takumar 3.5/35 runs rings around it.

The SMC Tak 20/4.5 came out before 1973. IIRC, I got mine in 1971.

(If you remember the 1970's, you weren't really there.
And if you understand that comment, then you were really there!)

Oh my... I must confess this is not my collection(I can only wish ). These are in fact images that I've collected awhile back from several people who were showing their own Takumar collections. Unfortunately, I don't remember who or where it came from(perhaps someone can help identify). Anyways, the last photo is by far the most impressive display of Takumars that I've ever seen. I honestly think this person owned every single lens ever made and in many cases several copies.

Hope this helps

Oui, oui, oui ... I looked fast and typed faster ... shock and awe ... and I also picked up this lens this weekend. Have yet to test but looking forward to it!

Allez et à bientôt, J Frog
