Pentax 18-135 lens creep? any fixes?

I've got the Pentax 18-135 which I love as a lens, but I often use it while hiking/kayaking/biking with my K5 attached to a Cotton Carrier.
With the camera attached the lens hags down and with the 18-135 it quickly extends out. This is quite problematic.
Does anyone have any fixes to keep the barrel from extending?
Thanks,
Ken

A big wide rubber band that fits snug over the zoom ring edge may be of some help. That's how I removed zoom creep on my old FA 100-300.

Get a new lens? This is the first time I've read anything about lens creep on the 18-135.

I use a fat rubber band on the zoom ring of my Sigma 170-500, and it works great, no zoom creep at all, even when pointed straight down.

It happens to mine, but I think it's how the camera bounces around on my strap. Not creep, but a very slow turning of the lens as it bumps against my hip. Pretty much all the lenses do this, but the lens loop strap is so handy, I will keep using it.

To me it sounds like you're saying that as soon as you point the camera down, the lens extends all the way in one quick motion.... if that's the case then it really shouldnt be doing that. Mine doesn't and a lot of other peoples don't. If i point mine down and shake it up and down (not too hard) then it slowly extends little by little... but that's about it.

I suppose I should clarify that it 'gradually' extends as I bump along either hiking/biking/or kayaking...

I guess it's not tight enough to stay in these conditions? Or should it be?

I have the same combination of the K5 and the 18-135 and I find it does creep slowly in the Cotton. It also creeps with the Rapid strap or any holder that points the lens straight down. I had the same problem with the Pentax Da 18-250 and solved it with a wrist strap around the lens. I am looking around the house for another one to try on the 18-135 as I sold the 18-250.

The kind that worked on it were the type you get a concerts etc. to prove you paid admission. I am not giving up the 18-135 even if it does creep!

Hope you have success finding a solution that works for you.

Rubber band works!

No more zoom creep on 17-70; not only that, I have been using the rubber band to limit my FL to 24mm - loving it.
