No. There are no settings or methods to make the K-5 use screwdrive on SDM-ready lenses.

That said, one user here had a K20D that malfunctioned and started using screwdrive. This was a few years back. I remember when the body was sold, the malfunction was listed as a positive feature.

yeah, my understand too only way has Aegon said a rare malfunction, or a older DSLR doens't support SDM then the screw drive will kick in. I wonder why wouldn't someone outhere could create a little program (like the Debug Mode,) to make it we can choose to use SDM or not in the camera.......just thinking here.

to get the SDM fix you can dry the DIY method here (a little search in the forum,) or send in to Pentax to fix it, should be roughly about $100. I did that to my DA*16-50mm, pretty happy about their services.

As Aegon said, there isn't an option for it, plenty have clamored for it for years now, so 99.9% chance it'll never happen. Your best options are to pick up an old *IST body (D, DL, DS, DL2 or DS2 or the samsung equivalents), or best bet would be either a K100D (non-super version - the super denoted having SDM contacts), or a K10d with early pre-SDM firmware. K100d or K10d are the best options as you get some form of shake reduction.

The SDM probably stop working for a reason so further use of the AF might break your lens even more.

Like I said, been brought up countless times, at this point it is long past never-gonna-happen territory.

Doubtful since it is the motor itself that fails.

Then why does it fail more in the DA*16-50 then for example the DA*60-250?

There is probably more to it then we know...
