How do you think about the lens price increase?

See details here:Brutal Pentax Lens Price Increase: 15-90% - Pentax Camera News & Rumors - PentaxForums.com
Unfortunately the price change policy covers almost all the lens line, and the DA* 16-50 and DA* 50-135 even doubled their prices.
For me I think the change will do nothing better but reduce Pentax's market share in US.

Utterly stupid move! It's brutal, alright, but mostly because they're shooting themselves in the foot. I understand what they're trying to do, but the unilateral pricing without lowering MSRPs at the same time is not going to get Pentax to show up in B&M stores all of a sudden. It will actually level the playing field between merchants, but not in the way Pentax was hoping - now every one of them will sell a heck of a lot less and formerly loyal Pentax users will start considering their options.

Exactly my thought, liu. The 16-50 was probably worth it at $800, but under no circumstances should anyone pay $1500 for it. The Tamron and Sigma alternatives are less than half the price and by every account just as good, if not better in some respects.

The only thing the 16-50 has over the other lenses is WR. I'd rather buy the Tamron and keep a clear plastic bag in my pocket.

There's no way the 16-50 will remain at 1500, nor the 50-135 at 1600. They'll either figure out appropriate new pricing levels or they'll can pretty much forget about selling any significant quantities of DA* lens.

I figured B&H, Amazon and Adorama were making a profit at $849 for the DA* 50-135. A small one, and other companies might not think it was worth selling the lens for, but I figured the price would go up to $999. These are APS-c lenses, and as nice as they are, they are not as nice as the Canon L lenses. My friend's full frame 70-200 L is a quality lens. It's $2000, but it covers full frame, is of higher quality, and has OS. Pentax cannot compete at these prices.

I totally agree. They're great lenses, but definitely not worth those prices! I suspect we'll see these prices all come down and even out. In reality, who sells at MSRP?

Interesting that the FA Limiteds and the DA 12-24 did not move. The price hikes are pretty steep especially on the flagship DA* zooms. Ouch.

I think it's not fully implemented and that the move on lenses is because they haven't set the floor price so dealers are playing it safe (or deliberately stirring sh*t) by going to the MSRP price which in the real world no product ever sells for
I think this will sort itself out but probably not over a couple of days

it should cost about the same as the comparable F4 ff lens without OS since the apsc demands at 2.8 are about the Ff f4 equivalent

the new 24-70 canon 2.8 is more like $2300 BTW . the old 24-70 @ 1399 is not necessarily the correct comparison

the nikon 24-70 2.8 is 1900

the Canon 17-50 2.8 apsc sells for about 1200 and is a fairer comparison

With the Pentax-brand lenses being sold much higher now, what will the percolating effect be on the Marketplace ?

It seems evident that some sellers will try to up their prices accordingly, my guess !

Will this also have a negative impact on what's for sale in the Pentax brand on the "used" market?

Not happy here...they just priced me out of my first autofocus prime. I've already expressed my displeasure at their "Contact Us" page . Couldn't hurt for others to do the same.
