Maybe, but I was trying to keep in the Chevy family to hold to the analogy . A corvette holds its own against a 911(Zeiss), and an Aston Martin is more Leica territory.

All this equipment is driven by the marketplace. Supply and demand. As others have said, stupid move, but prices will correct. There's also the idea of causing alarm then offering relief in order to pad some bad news.

the FA 43 was made in a LTM variant for Leica and easily holds it's own in that territory.

Price increase...

Stupidity! You should be enticing people into Pentax by undercutting Canon and Nikon, not by making it more expensive. ALso, they've done this before, only to have the street price gradually fall back to earth, but I'm afraid the retailers won't want to handle Pentax with such low margins. A stupid move all around.

Get a grip, Ricoh.

Sincerely,
Cameron

Would anyone on this thread pay $1,400 +/- a little for a DA*16-50 2.8 (a lens that is not even a FF lens)? The 50~135 isn't even worth that much - it may appear to be worth that much by spec but by all means with the painfully slow and sometimes erratic SDM, these lenses are barely worth half that considering the $400 17~50 Tamron performs just as good if not better in some cases than the *16~50. My thinking is they are somewhat dropping out of the western market and going to focus more on the eastern market where they have a little more market share...

Just buy from Prodigital in Canada, they still have good prices and often throw in a 7 year warranty to boot.

Well my purchase this week is the Sigma 70-200 OS FLD (the $100 rebate pushed me over the top) so the pentax issues do not affect me right now, they do however affect the brand in general I believe...

Low margins???
retailers still buy the lenses at the same price as last month but the retailers sell it at higher price so margins went up for them.

Sigma or Tamron are my choices for a sports zoom too, and the DA12-24 price wasn't affected. Those are the only needs I think I have right now, so I'm not really affected either. I'll look forward to seeing some shots from that siggy when you get a chance.

Its only postage after all said and done.

Unfortunately the price change policy covers almost all the lens line, and the DA* 16-50 and DA* 50-135 even doubled their prices.
For me I think the change will do nothing better but reduce Pentax's market share in US.
But, in the short term, it could boost sales. I bought my 12-24 for $700 when they upped their prices a few years ago, and this morning, after deciding that I am probably going to stay Pentax, hit the buy button on Prodigital's D FA 100mm WR. I see 6 other buyers have done the same since yesterday.
