Da 70-300?

Hi everyone,

It may just be that we in Australia are a little behind in getting the latest gear...
I've seen some online posts of people testing out their new DA 55-300 (sorry about the erraneous title - Webmaster, please amend).
It's on the roadmap, so I expected it would take some time to surface - but not so soon!
Is this lens indeed available already? And if so, what's it going for at the moment?

I'm looking for a decent replacement for my el-cheapo Sigma 70-300, but wanted to wait for the DA 55-300 rather than get the DA 50-200 (for the extra 100mm).

Am I a late bloomer on this issue? If so, feel free to cyber-smack me over the head...

Where did you see these posts? Are you sure you didn't see DL 70-300mm or 70-300mm Di?

Sorry guys,
I think you're right igowerf.
The posts I'd seen were from people who claimed they had Pentax DA 70-300 (which I know doesn't exist), which I would suppose means the Sigma or Tamron equivalents.

In any case, does anyone know the proposed specs of the DA 55-300?
Max apertures, min. focusing distance, IQ ratings/MTF data?

I think that lens got put on the roadmap because some one said, "hey, that sounds like a good range" and that is the extent of it's development.

Yeah, and it's a shame Pentax haven't come out with any DA lenses beyond 200mm yet!
