Rico's mod on a Yashica ML 50 f1.4 - any photos or input

Bonjour,

Just snapped up a super Yashica ML 50 f1.4 and I am going to modify next week as per Rio Rico's thread(s) which I have read and re-read ... Before attempting any Dremel mod on the 50, I'm going to practice on a junk lens and on a Tamron Adaptall-2 C/Y mount. If I succeed here then it's next for the 50.

To test how well I have modified, I have dissembled an old Vivitar TC on PK mount and I will use the "female" ring mount piece as my guide and/or "check for fit" before trying upon a real DSLR. Plus, I could also test mount on my K1000

Any input would be appreciated ... and certainly if you have a photo or two of this modification as a possible guide.

Merci d'avance et salut, John "le Baudet du Poitou"

Edit - here are some photos of the 50 & the C/Y mount

I don't think I've posted pictures of the modded C/Y and OM lenses because the trimming is very difficult to see. And I can't post new photos because all those modded lenses are at my home base 1000mi / 1600km away, and I won't return for a few weeks more. I didn't bring any of those lenses on my current journey. I'm sorry I can't be of more assistance now. [/me hangs head]

Bonjour Monsieur RioRico,

You are one of the last persons on PF to ever hang a head low ... plus I had already pestered you about a mod of a CZJ Prakticar 50 f1.4 (PB mount ?) ... it all can await your return and a convenient moment for you. I have plenty of other newly acquired (and older) toys, eh lenses, to play around with at the moment since my "el cheapo" buying spree at the Montamisť swap meet ... I only bought 8 lenses there, a TC, odd-ball filters & hoods, plus various assorted oddities that I'm all trying to hide from my wife!

Allez et prenez voter temps ... Salut, John le "Brown" Baudet du Poitou

Salut,
I do not want to pester you for info, but you could please post and/or send a photo of one of your Yashica modifications?

I am dying to try this, but would greatly appreciate any additional re-assurance (via a photo or whatever ...) before attacking this modification, since I'm such a novice here ...

Allez et merci d'avance, John le "Okie Frog"

Modified and in action!

Bonjour,

Well, finally found a moment to do the modification and all came out well. I entered the lens into the PF database for fun ... assuming that it won't get kick out for being a "Franken-lens"!

Allez et A+, John le Frog

Congratulations! I hope you like your planar ML50/1.4 as much as I do mine. It gives a different taste to photos than the the SuperTak and FA 50/1.4s. Cheers!

I know what happens day after tomorrow: Dental work. A crown replacement. Ouch. I should buy a Limited tomorrow. But none are nearby. And the crown will cost as much as a couple Limiteds. Ouch ouch. I hate this sort of prioritization.
