Samsung D-Xenon 18-55. Weather Resistant?

Hi,

A batch of these lenses are going for peanuts on eBay. Are they completely identical to the Pentax DA WR versions? I'm guessing they are but I want to know for sure.

They're not WR. These should be based on the standard 18-55 AL II (or is it AL I?).

They would be AL I equivalents (definitely not WR) - if memory serves the AL II weren't released until the K20d due to the higher sensor resolution (I might be wrong, the II version may have came with the K10d, however unless these were their last production stock they are likely AL I versions as most of the samsung re-badged cameras were pre-K10d, though they did have a K20d re-badge as well, I don't think they ever branded their kit lenses differently).

To the OP, where are you seeing these lenses for peanuts? I don't see them on ebay with a quick search.

The outward design is identical to the WR version though, which did not come out till after the AL II, right?

The D-Xenon 18-55mm appears to be the equivalent of the first version of the DA 18-55, which has 12 elements, 9 groups, and weighs 225 grams:

Interesting. I thought it was gonna be a bargain, but probably not worth it - the AL I is reputed to be inferior to the AL II, and no WR. I'll pass.

I have seen DA 18-55 AL II's go for less than what they are asking on the Samsungs.

I have one; it's definitely not weather sealed. As mentioned above, I've read that it is identical to the DA 18-55 AL I.
