DA 50mm f1.8 or F 50/1.7

Should I wait for the DA 50mm 1.8 or just go ahead and buy a Pentax-F 50mm/1.7? Do I have any other alternatives for an autofocus auto-aperture fast 50mm lens under $250?

Anyone have any idea how much the da 50mm 1.8 will go for?

No official price known or cannot be told...

But, as far as it is similar to the 35mm DA f 2.4, it will probably cost about 100-200USD

If the lens optics are as good or better than the pentax-f equivalent, I guess this would depreciate the F.

Probably, but as far as we do not have all the datas, waiting is a smart solution...

Nobody knows what the optics are going to be like. Unlike the 35/2.4 it is a new optical design.

Or like the 35mm 2.4, it is supposed to be cheap, so using a very old lens formula in a polycarbonate body allows Pentax Ricoh to make it very cheap

The F50/1.7 is known to be good. The DA50/1.8 is unknown. You may also find an FA50/1.4 in the same price range. Are you in a hurry?

The F50 and FA50 are available today. The DA50 isn't.

I was in the same boat...torn between the F50 1.7 or waiting for the new glass to come out. I decided to pull the trigger because I didn't want to wait an unknown time for a lens I wanted now...plus as RioRico said the F50 is a great lens (I have really been impressed with mine) while the new DA is an unknown commodity. I found the F50 f1.7 for a good price (and again we don't KNOW how much the DA will be...just guesses)...pulled the trigger and don't regret it a bit.

Depending on how quickly you want that fast 50...I don't think you will really go wrong either way.

Get the F 50mm f/1.7 it is a known quantity and the announced DA 50mm is unknown. I doubt it will be better when/if it is released and the F 50 will almost certainly have a better build quality. And I think the F will look really cool with the pink k-x!!

Go for the F50! I used it on my K-x for about a year and know it's on my K-5. Great lens with very fast AF.(although a little noisy on the K-x less so on my K-5)

Builds and optics are equivalent. F is probably rarer than FA. Mox nix.
