I'll definitely need some practice. I just posted pics in the K5 section and mine does not seem to be as sharp as the others posted on there with the same K5 + Tamron combo. I'm sure its not the camera nor the lens - it's me as an absolute beginner. That thread is quite long now so I wanted to post the same pics here but not sure if I should. Will need to get more familiar with the forum's rules to make sure I don't violate too many in my first few weeks.

agreed, if you are not sure why something is happening, share the pics and we can have a look and offer some insight to correcting the issues. good luck!

I've got one of these on the way myself but the HUGE plastic petal-shaped hood looks too fragile to last indefinitely. I'm thinking that a better daily-use option (and ideal for aquariums too) is a 77mm rubber lens hood. But which one? I've read that some rubber hoods get their internal wire supports easily bent out of shape over time making them a pain to use. Screw-in seems better than bayonet-mount so cir-pol filters can be rotated with the entire hood.

This Hoya model looks pretty good (three collapsing positions) but can anyone suggest a better option for this lens?:
