FA 50mm f/1.4 autofocus

Is this a good lens for the K10D camera? I am looking for a good lens for some portraits and for shooting sports in a gym.

One more thing. Is the Tiffen 49mm uv protector glass filter a good filter for this lens? I am nervous buying things on line. I like to make sure everything works before I buy it. So I am hoping for a little from my Pentax forum friends so I can give this on-line thing a try.

Yes, you can order the tiffen filter. Tiffen is a good brand for filters, there is also Hoya with similar quality. And also B+W which is the more expensive and supposed to be better.
For lenses I will also recommend you the FA 35mm f/2 lens which is only 1 stop slower but gives you a wider angle POV

They want portraits and indoor sports. To me wider doesn't seem to be the way to go.

The 50mm lens will work great for portraits. That's what I use it for my self. For indoor sports it seems like you might want something a little longer. It all depends on where you'll be shooting from. If you do need something longer then take a look at the 70mm f/2.4.
