Blue, I truthfully have no idea what you are writing about. I very rarely buy any new lenses or bodies from Adorama or B&H. I do spend well over $1000/yr at Adorama, used lenses, new other equipment that I like to see and touch (camera bags, I just bought a carbon fiber tripod/head from them etc) The 8.75% sales tax premium I pay makes it a losing proposition IMO. New lenses are usually bought from ProDigital 2K, Abes in NJ (mail order) or some other online store. BTW, eventho I buy nothing from Amazon, they also charge the 8.75% sales tax.

Abes was on the list. Remember this part?

However, I find it weird that you found the prices too high before, but you are copasetic with the prices doubling on things now. I guess you will be mail ordering from Pro-Digital in Canada only for new gear. You don't realize that you guys have more B&M stores than the rest of the country combined and then you guys piss and moan over 7% sales tax. BTW, I didn't say you were taking up for Amazon, I said I wasn't .

If one look at the prices below, it is a few lenses that have gone up by a large margin, but the average is not too bad? If one look at all the hype you would think everything is double what it used to be The average of the list below is about 26%

First off, that was just a hyperbolic general term. 2nd off, Rice Low's average didn't take into account the previous price increases.

If you will notice in these threads, I have talked about the premium lenses and the new prices in the context of not having a warranty comparable to Nikon's 5 year warranty.

But even at these percentages 35 -84% on the higher ticket items is a substantial increase. Even a 20 - to 25% increase on the more entry level items is significant given the previous price increase. I got the D FA macro less than a year ago for $540. The price had since increased on it for example.

D-FA 100mm Macro $599.95 $849.95+41.7%
DA* 200mm $959.95 $1199.95+25%
DA* 300mm $1124.95 $1399.95+24.4%

DA 40mm Limited $339.95 $499.95+47.1%
DA* 60-250mm $1295.95 $1999.95+54.3%

DA* 16-50mm $799.95 $1499.95+87.5%
DA* 50-135mm
$849.95 $1599.95+88.2%

Sigma & Tamron would only increase their k-mount lens prices if they also increased the prices for other mounts, I think.

I know several professional writers personally, two of them are really good friends. In general, the old school professional publishing houses treat their writers pretty well, MUCH MUCH better than the treatment that Amazon gives them. And Amazon is actively hostile to the houses.

More and more authors are leaving Amazon, some even when their publishes don't want them to. Amazon, Apple et al are really screwing over the traditional publishing model, it will be interesting to see how the book business shakes out.

26% is a massive increase IMHO, especially in a low inflation environment.

OTOH, if you buy one of each lens your "average" increase is 29%! Another (worse) kind of working the average.

Well I wont be buying any more Pentax lenses. My D7000 arrived this morning, so that settles that.

If Pentax wants to charge the same/more than Canikon, then it better step it up in terms of built quality and warranty. My personal experience with new Pentax lens has been nothing short of disappointing. I have had to return/exchange every single new Pentax lens, except for one, due to either blatant manufacturing defect, excessive dust/particle inside the lens or bad optical alignment. I don't know if Canikon suffers from this level of quality control, but I suspect not, based on talking with other owners. I think for the trouble I went through to get my decent copies, I was definitely entitled to a deep discount from the Canikon equivalents.

I never said I was copasetic now. What I said was that I wasn't going to pledge not to buy new pentax lenses. Canadian prices on many lenses are still pretty good. For instance I very recently (post price increase) paid $600 for a new DFA 100mm WR. at a Canadian site. They are going for $850 here in the states. I very rarely make large electronic purchases (and new lenses are considered electronic) at local B&M stores, not now, not pre price hike. Why pay an extra 8.75%? (not 7%) It just doesn't make sense!

The irony. One of the alleged reasons for the Ricoh boys to crack down forcing dealers to sell at MSRP was to protect the integrity of sales being made to people outside they U.S. Then we have a New Yorker who buys from Canada. I thought you guys up there liked high property taxes and sales taxes. Plus, we are talking about saving money. You seem to thing we are trying to talk you into buying at a higher price. Maybe you should go camera shopping in Atlanta or Miami. I don't see ordering out of Canada as a real solution to stay with Pentax over the long haul.

No you are trying to talk me into not buying any new pentax lenses. If I have the money and I can find a good deal, I'm not willing to do that. And why should I leave pentax? I'd spend a LOT more money replacing all my excellent legacy glass with any other brand. What would it cost me to replace a SMC 50mm f/1.2? I paid $250 for mine 5 yrs ago. How about a SMC 135 f/2.5? I paid $75 for that. A 35-105 f/3.5? I paid $100. I could go on but I'm sure you catch my meaning. Besides buying from Canada is no different than buying from Amazon, just that it costs at least 8.75% less. I'm not a regular body upgrader, I usually skip at least one upgrade cycle, and I'm not lusting after FF either. There is no reason to switch, whether I'm buying from Newark NJ or Newfoundland.

The basic reason not to buy is simple, economic pressures are the only ones likely to change this daft policy. If you won't refrain from buying new that's your choice - of course. It's just that given that Ned has made it abundantly clear that we are not the customers the only way to get this changed is to get his customers (Adorama, B&H, Amazon, and all those gazillion B&M shops out there) to realize that there is no profit - ZERO - in overcharging customers.

Thanks for discussing it and I appreciate your willingness to explain your thinking and not simply poke fun, taunt, or insult those of us with whom you disagree.
