Lowell:

I am confused (not a unique condition in my case, unfortunately). When I go to the Sigma web site I cannot find a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens for a Pentax mount. Is this something they built for a while, and then discontinued?

Yeah, they are no longer made for the pentax mount. I was lucky to snag a DG one on ebay a while back.

OK, I just got off the phone with Adorama and he said that they don't do bulk buys or have any program like that at the moment but if we were able to do a purchase of say 10 or more lenses they may be willing to cut $10 off per lens and that may increase if the quantity rises. In either case they could not give a hard number until the product arrives and the buyer gets contacted to see what he/she is willing to give up on the purchase.
Whoo hooo............. Spend $7,000 with Adorama and they will knock off $100. Not even worth the hassle of trying to orchestrate the payment process and the shipping process, because I bet they will want a single payment source and a single shipping source, but who knows.

Definately not the most forum friendly group buy offer they could make.

I received my reply from Tamron today and it is similar to what was already posted. Here is what they said:

Pat Simonetti [simonetti@tamron.com]; on behalf of; Custserv [Custserv@tamron.com]
"Yes we realize that dealers are advertising and some of them are taking orders, however, we do not have a definite release date yet."

Well there you have it. No release date yet, or they're keeping a tight lid on it.

Did anyone pick up a Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8? $699 on Amazon - VERY tempting!

Tamron releases lenses in this mount order: Canon, Nikon, Sony, Pentax.
Canon's release was pushed back from March 7th to next month, so I'm just hoping the Pentax one is released before summer is over :-P

Might be because Sony owns a sizable chunk of Tamron ~10-20%.

Is this lens Internal Zooming, doesn't say on Tamron website. I am considering Sigma 70-200 2.8 as well, but the Sigma is only HSM, so won't AF on older bodies such as K100D.

Does Amazon charge your card immediately when you place the order for backordered items?
