Tamron 70-200 f/2.8

What does everyone think on the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8? It's supposedly coming at the end of this January.

I honestly thought the 60-250 f/4 would be available by now, January. I've read that Tamron has backpedaled this 70-200 for almost 4 years. But at least they've got it together now.

I hope Pentax doesn't turn this into the waiting game and do what Tamron did. But as long as do, at least for right now, the 70-200 may be the best shot when it comes. I may never see Pentax 60-250. Heck, neither may any of us.

I wonder what took Tamron so long to release this lens. It was announced when the SP28-75/2.8 made its appearance, and that was when most people were still shooting film.

I think actually that I will be buying a 70-200mm zoom finally, as it's supposed to be cut from the same cloth as the 28-75mm f/2.8, my first and most surprising lens.

I would really like one. I think a good 70-200 f2.8 is one of the major gaps on the pentax mount right now. Or, for that matter any sort of available fast long zoom (50-135 doesn't really cut it, 200 is quite a bit longer). I'm really into concert photography so one of these would be great to have (or more importantly, better low light AF).

In fact, I think my eventual ideal kit will have this and maybe 2 other lenses-
50 1.4, 77 limited 1.8, 18-55
to be added- 70-200 2.8, sigma 10-20, fast lens in 30 range

Saving my pennies as we speak! The 28-75mm is a great lens indeed. Can't wait to get it's bigger brother.

SP AF70-200mm F/2.8 Di LD (IF) Macro; Tamron USA, Inc.

HOLY CR*P!!!!!! That is a great price! And I just bought the DA* 50-135mm (great lens though) so now what to do....I'll have to scrounge up $700...

It is cheap at $700. Less than the DA* 50-135 and I'm guessing, it would be less than the rumored $1200 Pentax 60-250.

On APS-C, it's 109-310mm. That's good reach, price is fair enough, especially at f/2.8.

They had to be competitive with the Sigma which has OS, so it was likely it would be a few hundred bucks less.

edit: p.s. would still love to see them partner with Pentax on this one, so we could use this great lens and have MTF data in the lens. Only downer in getting this from Tamron.

This one sounds very promising.

I would have liked a Pentax 80-200 but pretty pricey and heavy. It feels heavier then my Nikon 70-210 F2.8 VR. Did not want the Sigma version and now they seem a bit hard to get.

The Tamron could fit my missing FL for equine work nicely and add one more low light lens in Pentax mount, (I'll have the 28-70 and then 70-200)and if that is the US selling price, it still stands to reason that it will be around 8-900 up here, even of our dollar is almost at par.

Man, this one is going to bug me until I buy it. I was going to wait until my B-Day in June, but that may have to change.

Damnit. I spend 900+ for my sigma 70-200mm which has a slight front focusing problem and then this comes out. Should I sell it buy the tamron and make a profit?
