OK, I just got off the phone with Adorama and he said that they don't do bulk buys or have any program like that at the moment but if we were able to do a purchase of say 10 or more lenses they may be willing to cut $10 off per lens and that may increase if the quantity rises. In either case they could not give a hard number until the product arrives and the buyer gets contacted to see what he/she is willing to give up on the purchase.

Ahh the Fockers ! (yes as in Meet the Parents!) $10.00 is not enough for this Canadian to go through the hassle of shipping and Customs, possible brokerage fees yada yada yada - 10% perhaps but not $10.00 - I appreciate the effort though Buddha Jones - I wonder if the mark up is really that slim or they just do not need the business ?

yep...for $10, I'd just wait until we get some user reviews of it first. If it were a 10% discount, it'd be worth doing a group buy...

Amazon also has the lens listed for $699:
Amazon.com: Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 SP AF Di LD IF Macro Lens for Pentax and Samsung Digital SLR Cameras: Camera & Photo

I might end up buying through Amazon if we can't get a bigger discount through Adorama. I love my Amazon Prime 2-day shipping.

Are you saying that for this item -- where it has already been explained that Canon and Nikon will be the 1st the factory is tooled for and Pentax produced only after that -- can be received in two weeks because you read "Availability: Usually ships within 2 to 4 weeks. Ships from and sold by Amazon.com. Gift-wrap available." on their website... with a straight face?! Read Mr Hyde's contribution again.

No need to get snippy. You can actually add it to your cart and check out, as opposed to just pre-ordering or signing up for notification. That's why I said that it's "available to buy." Amazon is usually good about changing their ordering options depending on stock.

EDIT: It says "usually ships in 2-4 weeks" for all of the mounts, whatever that may mean.

Release date still TBD

Hey everyone. This is my first post to this forum. =)

I emailed Tamron a few days ago about the release date, and they politely said it has not been determined. Read below and judge for yourself. Hope this helps.

Hi,
The reason I've emailed is because several retailers (adorama, amazon,
etc) have begun listing this lens as being imminently available and are
already taking orders. Given that the demand for the pentax version of the
lens will be very high (this is the first new 2.8 70-200mm lens offered by
anyone in 6-8 years), many people are feeling pressured to order them now,
thus incurring a $700+ charge that may sit on our accounts for many months.
If your company has any sort of release date, they need to make it known
now. Otherwise, please stop listing this lens with various retailers.
This is a dishonest and deceptive practice.

I understand what you mean however we, Tamron, are not listing the lens as
available with anyone. They are doing this on their own and that is their
decision. Also, I believe it is illegal to charge someone for a product
that they don't have available to offer you. Again, this is a dealer
problem. In my opinion, they can take your order but not charge you until
they are ready to actually give you the lens. We have not told anyone when
we will deliver this lens as we do not know yet. Once we have a confirmed
delivery date from our Parent company that is when we tell our dealers.

Again, we are not listing anything with our dealers. They know the lens is
coming soon and I guess they are being proactive and taking orders.

medbooks: I agree w/ Tamron...it's not their fault. It's the dealers and I don't think Tamron has much influence in dictating what they can do :-P
It's confusing for Tamron to say "coming soon" when they don't know though...there are all sorts of logistics issues in getting enough product to sell, etc...

I spoke with Henry's in Canada regarding 70-200 availability, and here was what they wrote back:

"Unfortunately we do not have any information on this lens just yet. We do not have any availability or pricing just yet."

My interpretation of this is that they were not even aware that this lens is in pre-production by Tamron.

Hope that helps some of my fellow Canucks.

although I don't knock tamron lenses I like them and have several, I am really glad (or perhaps lucky) that I made the decision to get the sigma APO 70-200EX 4 years ago.

I would have hated to wait this long from any of the manufacturers to provide this lens.

I honestly have no idea what they can be thinking, and this includes pentax.
