How Lenses Are Made

Stumbled upon this pretty cool video about how optical lenses are made. Gave me a lot more respect for my lenses.

I thought others might enjoy it too.

Interesting video.

Interesting program too, How It's Made is a Quebec, Canada production and the version we get here in Ontario has a lady doing the voice over instead of the man you hear on this video.

Thanks for posting.

There are different narrators depending on where the show aired.

It's a great show.

Just think, if money were no object we could get custom Pentax mount lenses designed and built for us.

The exclusive PentaxForums range of lenses.

$10-20k per lens perhaps?

I had thought of that, perhaps we could do a group buy? Might be cheaper than genuine Pentax glass now.

Be a manual focus lens though wouldn't it? I doubt they could do the miniature motors for autofocusing and things like that?

Although I suppose with enough money.......

Not sure, they did say clearly that the partner with several off-shore companies so lots of things might be possible.

It's not very exciting. They heat up a block of the coating and it vaporizes while the lens elements move around and the coating deposits onto the elements.
