18-55 vs 18-135 WR-ness

I've seen concerns about the actual ability of the two lenses to keep out water since they aren't internal-zoom designs. Is that actually something to watch out for with them?

PS Please focus only on this and the build quality of the lenses, not IQ.

Don't go dipping either in a river, but Pentax says that WR designs are splash proof or something, so if you're caught in the rain you'll be fine. YMMV with more extreme punishment, but generally WR is insurance, not an excuse to go galloping into a waterfall.

Pentax says that the DA* lenses are dust sealed and the WR lenses aren't, which seems to be the main difference. I can imagine a non-internal zoom wouldn't be dust sealed, but then again, my 16-50 isn't internal zoom either.

Just don't keep your mic port or SD port open during rain...that's where I feel the most air escaping with the 18-135. Nothing too extreme though.

Thanks, that was comforting. I know I can't go scuba-diving with them but a poster noted they zoom the 18-135 out to 18 and keep it there, since it's a dual-cam design.
