Tokina AT-X 28-70mm/f2.8 (Type I ?)

Hi there,

Just bought the Tokina AT-X 28-70mm/f2.8 (I think it's Type I). The seller told, AF is not working but don't know why. I opened the lens and found out that the AF flexcable is broken.

Just send an email to Tokina Europe (Netherlands) and asked for the cable as sparepart. But no chance: This cable not avaliable anymore.

Anyone ideas, how to fix the AF anyway?

Try to take a pic of the cable (especially the connectors if possible), add dimensions. Might be a standard (one of one million) connection.

Ouch... That is truly impossible to find an alternative replacement i think...
Perhaps you'd have to hunt ard for another copy with banged up body or optics for really low price just to open up and get the flex cable from in there?

you can braze wire to remplace flexcable. But the major challenge will be to find wire small enought to fit into the lens after brazing.

Maybe look for IDE hard drive cable split it to have the good number of wire in it and braze

(sounds like a nice challenge !)

No way there would be a standard one for this. Maybe a straight one could be obtained but the ends are a problem.
The IDE cable solution might work if the cable fits inside. This takes some skill in repair of electronics, anyone done this?
