Even though I don't use it nearly as much as I should, I couldn't part with my FA* 85mm. Primary reason is because I'm the original owner and it'd be nearly impossible to find one in the same condition as mine!

Of the lenses I have, there are only a few I don´t see mysef getting rid of:

20/2.8
31/1.8
55/1.8
85/1.4
Elmarit 180/2.8

And I dont think I can justify selling the AF 1.7 coverter either as it makes the Elmarit 180 a wonderful 305mm as well as being useful on many other lenses.

A Few of My Favorite Things

Most of the lenses I own seem to be favorites for awhile, and then something a little different comes along. But there are a few that keep resurfacing and making their way back onto a camera. I really am not able to get the best out of any of the lenses I currently own but, for today, here are a few of my favorite ones:
  1. Pentax 645 FA 45-85mm
  2. Minolta MD Rokkor 45mm f2
  3. Sigma EX DG 50mm f2.8 Macro
  4. Pentax FA* 200mm f2.8
  5. Pentax FA 77mm Limited
  6. Pentax FA 31mm Limited
  7. Pentax 645 A 150mm
  8. Pentax 645 FA 120mm Macro
  9. Vivitar Series One 105mm f2.5 Macro
  10. Pentax SMC 35mm 3.5

I like primes a lot and I shoot very few zooms. In fact, there is only one zoom on this list, but for my Pentax 645Nii I just can't seem to find a more useful, or capable, lens. As with most people on this forum, there are many other lenses I may reach for in a given situation, but these are the ones that have floated to the surface today.

Along with lenses that aren't worth selling are lenses that are very difficult to replace with anything else. Some of my lenses that I'd be very loath to part with fall into that category. Those lenses I've marked with a ^

FA 43mm ltd
FA 31mm ltd
FA 77mm ltd
FA 20mm F/2.8^
FA 20-35mm F/4.0^
DA 12-24 F4.0
Sigma EX 70-200 F/2.8 non macro version ^
Pentax A 35-105 F/3.5
Pentax K 135 F/2.5
Pentax K 50 F/1.2 ^ (not really rare but I paid less than $300 for mine in KEH "e" condition over 5 years ago, replacement value is much higher now.

NaCl(not that I wouldn't sell the above if I have to but I'd hate to have to)H2O

Lenses that aren't worth selling get thrown in the bin. I did that a couple of days ago; it's only taken me twenty years....

Somewhere along the line, somebody (not me -- I'm booked for a few weeks more) should tabulate these lists, see which are the most-loved keepers. I notice a certain few Taks and DA*'s in there.

There's nothing I have that I absolutely wouldn't sell, but I'd be most reluctant to say good-bye to the 77, followed by the 15. I'm attached enough to these two lenses that even if I eventually get a Nikon FF, as I'm currently planning, I'll probably still keep them around just to use on my K-7. I've even toyed with the idea of getting the 31 so I could have a sweet little 15/31/43/77 Pentax system forever, even if I take my hobby more broadly to another system. But that's expensive, and if funds needed to liberated to make way for something I wanted more... well, any of my lenses are fair game for the marketplace.

Of manual focus only:

Pentax-K 24mm f/2.8
Super-Takumar 28mm f/3.5
Pentax-A 50mm f/1.2
S-M-C Macro Takumar 50mm f/4
Super-Takumar 55mm f/1.8
Yashinon Tomioka 60mm f/2.8 Macro
Pentax-K 85mm f/1.8
Vivitar Series 1 90mm f/2.5 Macro
S-M-C Takumar 135mm f/2.5
Tamron SP 70-210mm f/3.5 Model 19AH

The last one to go would be the Yashinon 60mm Macro. I am rather sentimental about it, but I like the focal length, the fact that it is macro, the ease of focus, the pre-set aperture mechanism....and the images.

To be honest, there is not a single lens safe once it is in my camerabag. There will be the day that I sell it in favor for something new!

Up to now FA*85mm/f1.4 and DA*55mm/f1.4 are very safe as is my latest lenspurchase FA31mm/f1.8.

My two cents:
CZJ Biometar 80/2.8 m42
Jupiter 9 (Kiev to PK).

Like most on this site, I have fallen ill with LBA on several occasions through-out my image making years so I have acquired a fairly significant pile of glass and metal/plastic (19 at last count). If I had to list 10 that I would not part with it would be:

1) SMC MACRO Takumar 50mm f4.0 (1:1)
2) DA 55mm-300mm ED f4.0-5.8
3) SMC Takumar 50mm f1.4
4) SMC K 300mm f4.0
5) Vivitar Series 1 MACRO 105mm f2.5
6) SMC F 35mm-135mm f3.5-4.5
7) SMC F 70mm-210mm 4.0-5.6
8) SMC F 50mm f1.7
9) K 200mm f4.0
10) Pentax Ref Converter A 2X

Since I own no less than 7 50mm lenses including a second SMC Tak 50mm f1.4, SMC M 50mm f1.7, SMC A 50mm 2.0, and a Sigma MACRO 50mm f2.8 (1:1) it wouldn't be too hard of a chore to sell at least a few............LOL.

I guess there's not much of an upgrade path once you have those 3

I have 50 Fifties. Of those, 5 would be easy to part with (but hard to sell): three M50/2s, a SuperTak 55/2, and an EL-Nikkor 50/4. A couple others would be not *too* hard to do without, but again some might be hard to sell: the Yashica DSB 50/1.9 and the Meyer Domiplan 50/2.8 get no respect. And do I choose between the Meyer Oreston 50/1.8 whose pin is glued down for PK use, or its twin the Pentacon Electric 50/1.8 that still works in auto on M42 cams? And whether those go or not, I'd be looking for Nikkor and OM 50/1.4s, and maybe some 55/1.2 or 58/1.2; and if I dumped the Sears-Cosina 50/2, I'd want its 50/1.7 kin. Decisions decisions decisions...

As I said up top, ANY and ALL lenses COULD go. But I'd rather keep most of them.
