Which would you keep the K50 f1.2 or teh A50 f1.2?

Hello

For the owners of these lenses, I was wondering which glass do you prefer?

Thanks

Same glass. The A is worth about 2x-3x as much as the K.

Really? I got my A50 1.2 for a bit more than 400€ on 'bay and I don't think I ever saw the K going for less than 300. Is the bay (Germany) strange here or do I misremember?

As to the original question: The A is simply stunning, one of my three favourite lenses, I would be curious if anybody compared it to it's older brother. While the formula for both lenses is the same, the coatings should be different, shouldn't they?

In theory the optics are equal, but of the 2 you have which copy is better? Keep that one. If they a equal keep the A.

I'm in USA. I got my K for US$250 -- from a marketplace, not the bay. I've seen K's recently for US$300-350. I've seen A's recently for US$600-750. I stand by my 2x-3x approximation. Your country may vary.

My K is superb but it's not an A nor a preset. K's require a somewhat slower approach. If I had to choose between an A and an optically better K? Hmmm, tough choice. I'll dither.

Without having ever used the A version, it's hard to tell. The A version probably has slightly different ("updated") coatings and probably renders colors differently from the K version. From what I've seen from A series glass, those lenses tend to render colors a bit more realistically though without as much character as K series glass. As I tend to prefer the more distinctive rendering of the K series glass, I think would take the K version.

The only other difference between the K & A 50/1.2 is the weight. The K weighs 40 grams more which probably means the A version has less metal and more plastic.

If both copies are equal relative to sample variation, I would keep the A 50/1.2 because it has the A contacts. The K has 8 aperture blades and the A has 9 aperture blades. That may or may not translate into anything effecting bokeh etc. As far as weight goes, the A is 349 grams and the k is 385. Some of that 36 g difference could be differences in machining designs of the parts.
