Some of the substances they had in old glass are not allowed to use anymore cause they are harmful to the environment.
Later glass has different optical properties and old lensformulas cant be used then.
Read it on some forum. Donīt know if its true.

Addendum to prior post: I haven't tracked all this down yet -- my current travel system is not research-friendly (the prior post took an hour to write) -- but I've come up with some other stuff.

* Phoenix is AFAIK another badge name for Samyang glass, so don't dismiss them.
* I've come across some long glass labeled SUPER that look rather like Samyang-Bower products. Specifically, 500/8 long teles and mirrors.
* Isn't there a 'Vivitar' 600-1200 supertele? Is it FF?
* Some Samyang glass badged as Vivitar is labeled differently: 7mm vs 8mm, 13mm vs 14mm, etc. Tricky devils!
* Is the HorusBennu 50 in PK a FF lens?
* I've seen (sold as NEW on Amazon, but I don't know if production has ended) the Vivitar (Cosina) Series 1 AF 19-35/3.5-4.5, an AF update of the PK-A version I just got. Is this a derelict?

And my curiosity is piqued. I put together the above list of "oddments and 'toy' lenses", but I wonder what else may be out there? Holga for PK, yes, but not Diana. Does anyone here know of other 'oddments' that we pervs may like?

That is not true. Those lenses have not been out of production that long. Besides, the FA 43mm LTD, FA 50/1.4, FA 35/2, FA 77/1.8 ltd and FA 31/1.8 LTD would be in the same plight if it were. Before you start up on old optical formulae, new doesn't automatically mean better. The DA 40mm LTD is only ~ 4 years newer than some of the FA ltd lenses.

You are right, at least with the DA*55mm one new item on it.

Has Pentax described the DA*55 as a FF?

Not very. The calculation has to be changed a little.

What about the two shift-tilt lenses from Schneider? I've seen them for sale at B&H, but it says "ships in 10-14 days" - is that enough to make them "special order" instead of "current production"? They might be interesting on a full frame camera, though I'd be interested in something wider. Not to mention that they are way out of my price-range!

There's also the 28mm shift lens (Super-Angulon).
If you want to be picky, it really covers MF, not just full-frame 35mm.

The list can be updated to show the new DA 50/1.8. It is described as a FF compatible lens.
