I've received the 200mm F2.8. It's huge.. I don't think I can get it in..... I'll use that for the upcoming Sydney fashion weekend instead

the 200 2.8 is still smaller than some of the 70-200 2.8 zooms

Nice lens I'm sure you'll enjoy it

I tried it for a few minutes, definitely nice. I've never used anything like this before, I felt like I was using a binocular lol

I should take it to the zoo sometime

I'm glad I didnt get the 70-300, would be too much for me to handle

I don't have $$ to get the Q setup. So I might just take the 55 1.4, although it really isn't for fast moving objects ..

70-300? As in, a basic slow consumer zoom? That would be no larger than you current 55-300, but indeed, not better in amy way whatsoever. If you meant a 70-200, and specific a 70-200/28, them indeed, those are quite large, and as has been mentioned many ime, no chance of getting that (or the somewhat smaller 200/2.8) into most concerts.

Oops, I meant 70-200. The sigma one weighs 1.3+kg and even if it's not for concerts it's too heavy for me. The 200 f2.8 weighs 0.8+kg and still looks huge especially with its huge hood on! Its like half of my arms length

The upcoming catwalk does allow cameras but I'm not very confident about what their reaction would be when they see me carry this thing on a monopod

Hopefully you are far enough away that the 200mm is the right lens and they don't think you are a perv !

3rd row with a 200 lens means you won't be able to fit an entire face in the frame when someone is at the front of the syage, but should get you get head and shoulder shots from a few steps back, half body or so from mid stage, and maybe full body from someone at the far end of the stage. Just to set expectations...

55-300 gives you flexability, and there should be enough light that the slower speed lens doesn't matter that much

Yeah, as has been mentioned before, large venues are almost always very brightly lit on stage. If I were you, I'd just take the 55-300 - although even then, it's entrely possible they simply won't let you take the camera in. Totally illogical, since everyone is taking pictures and even video with cell phones, but I still find many venues search bags and won't let you in with anything resembling a real camera.

and with the advent of cell phone cameras like the insane 41mp nokia the reason for limiting to crappier cameras goes out the window. really since the iphone 4s people can walk out with some very good video. I understand the reason for wanting to limit video, I know my pass (along with everyone else's) got pulled on a peter murphy show because they were doing half a dozen songs that hadn't been released yet
