Will all new lens designs have SDM?

Not saying they would get rid of screw drive. Will there be a place for new designed lenses that don't have SDM (this would perhaps seem the opposite idea of Nikons goal). Where would this put Tokina/Pentax designed lenses?

Probably not for several years.
There are just too many cameras without it kicking around, and if the lens companies try to eliminate it overnight they'll loose too many customers.

Even when they do eliminate it you'll still be able to manual focus.

Don't mean they would replace screw drive. Would all new lenses have both? Not kit lens, unless theres a new one.

Totally screwed anybody. Then again, most people buying a D40 wouldn't give a rat's *ss since they'll stick to the kitlens for ages anyway.
