simple:
If you have a 5% market share, what should they bother for such specific products?
Can they sell 10 per year?

I've known about that lens for a while now, and will probably be using a Sigma as an event camera soon.
But you can bet that I won't pay $1400 USD for one.

I won't even pay the wholesale price for it, which is what they'd probably ask me for

To be honest, I would not pay 1400.00 or even $400.00 for it; $40.00 maybe...The reason being is that I am not a fan of fish eye lenses and would have no use for it...What irks me is that there are many lenses I would gladly pay $1400.00 just as there are some folks who would pay $1400.00 for this crazy fish eye...Point is, even though we are say 6% of the market, I am sure it still amounts to 100,000's of sales...

Same reason that people make stuff for Macintosh. It will still make them money even if it's less of it. I'm sure they would sell more than 10 if they made it in Pentax.

Albert,
I think that your right. If they made it in a Pentax mount, and kept the price reasonable they'd sell tons of them.

But at that price it would scare off most Pentax owners. Although if Pentax bought them from Sigma with their lens coating and name on they'd probably sell a fair amount, even at a few $ more.

I think it is due to a fact, that all of us use a crop camera. It is hard to get such an angle for a crop sensor...

Hi Javier

Re your comment:

Well, the answer to your problem is both risky and simple depending upon your outlook, so here goes. Take a round-trip to your nearest stone quarry and proceed to filch a few sticks of high-grade gelignite whilst no-one else is looking. Convey them to Sigma's HQ by what ever means possible and place a cluster strategically under the MD's chair at the next board-meeting.
Light the blue touch-paper and then 'watch the sparks fly'..........lol !!!!

Failing that improbable scenario, a few choice E-mails to the relevant department at Sigma might do the trick, but considering Pentax's limited market-share, you may well be waiting an awful long time before your wish comes to pass !
Or (God forbid !) swap brands.......Ouch, I knew that might hurt ! I'm just off to wash my mouth out with soap.....

Best regards
Richard
