DA*55 f/1.4 and 49mm filters

Does anyone know if this vignettes wide-open with a step-down ring and 49mm filters?

No one is answering?

Well I don't have a DA*55 or a step down ring so I cant replicate the test.

The closest I can do is to get my Revuenon 55/1.2 (which also has 58mm filter) and stop it to f1.4. There's no notch at f 1.4 so i just stuck it in the middle between f1.2 and f2 about where f 1.4 would be,
Next I screwed a 49mm UV onto a 49-58mm step UP ring and then hold it backwards to the barrel of the lens.

Does it vignette?
The answer for my Revuenon 55mm f1.4-ish with reversed step up (or down) ring handheld filter is ........drumroll........Yes, a little bit. You can't actually see the filter ring of course but there is a noticable difference in light falloff in the corners to f1.4 with and without a filter.
Some slight vigenetting is noticealble with the lens at f1.4 anyway but with the 49mm filter it is more than double that.

So.... will the DA*55 vignette at f1.4 with a 58-49mm step down ring and a 49mm filter?
Yes ...a little bit.....maybe......i don't know

I dont know if that was helpful at all?

Why would anyone be silly enough to step down a lens that uses 58mm filter thread to use 49mm filters?

The reason is obvious and it's a consideration when I buy lenses. Only 49 + 52mm lenses since I have filters for those.

But when you own $600+ lenses it shouldn't be too difficult to come up with the extra money to buy a 58mm or a square filter set for it. This is the digital age and there are very few filters that you actually need imo. A CIRPOL and a 3 stop ND fill almost all of my needs. Maybe a protective filter for special situations (salt spray for example) or a 10 stop ND. I do want to get a square filter set so I can have a grad ND filter though.
