JACKPOT!! please, please tell me what to pay for these unused classics in an attic.

I don't know much about older glass, but came across these in a nice old mans attic. They were his wifes, who never used them. They're all absolute shop new mint, so I want to pay him what they're worth ( so I don't get bad karma

).

SMC Pentax A 135mm F2.8
SMC Pentax A 35-105 F3.5
Takumar 28mm F2.8
SMC Pentax 50mm F2 (there are two of these)
SMC Pentax 50mm F1.7
SMC Pentax 50mm F1.2
Tamron 70-150mm F3.5
Takumar 80-200mm F4.5

What would be the MUST GETS from this lot? And what's a fair price (US or AUS dollars).

Thanks very much for any help you can give.

The 35-105 goes for about $150 (US) at the moment. The 50/2 is worth twenty or thirty bucks.

The 50mm F1.2 is (I Think) worth about $300 - $500 - it is pretty rare.

Sorry I will just ad that you can check out the 50mm F1.2 and all the others in the lens review database on this site, it also gives average $$ paid for the various lenses.

For the 50mm F1.2 the average price paid for a copy is $557 (US)

50/1.7 is about A$60 on eBay.

My money would be on the 50 1.2 (is it M,A or F?). The A version goes for around 500 off an ebay shop that sells them regularly (they must have stocked some when production stopped)...

Also the 135/2.8 is very interesting. For the other lenses, I'd check if you have those FL already covered and otherwise maybe pick the better ones for the marketplace here.

Besides that, I wolud go for 135/2.8 and maybe 35-105/3.5.

It is hard to say I would say about 500-800 for the whole pack (look for oil in blades and check the aperture ring) depending on what models are they. The A versions are usually more expensive. The 50 f1.2 mint is the real jackpot. Good luck there.

On the 50 F1.2 just make sure it is a F1.2 and not an F2 with 1:2 that often confuses people. And the price difference is F1.2 $500 to F2 $25.00 (give or take on the price.

Depends what you mean by "worth". Aything faster than f/1.4 is rare for any camera system, so if you need super-fast glass there's not much else to choose from.

The reason I highlight these is as follows:

the 50mm F1.2 is rare and of interest to anyone doing low light work.

the two SMC-A lenses because they are KA mount, and also relitively fast compared to what ever else is out there will have some value

The tamron 75-150 F3.5 also might get some interest due to speed and dep[ending upon whether it is K or KA mount

As others have quoted, the 50mm F2 and even the F1.7, because they are K mount not KA are really only worth ~$20

I'd pick those three, too. The SMC-A 135 f2.8 is kinda hard to find these days. The vast majority of the 135mm's that you see out there are the f2.5 Takumar version. I own the 35-105 and I like it a lot. It's my everyday lens. It's kinda heavy though and not everyone likes that about it.

My 35-105/3.5 has spent the last couple of days mounted, and is the lens I normally have mounted on my K100D when I'm not using screwmount lenses on it.

Thats a hell of a lens Mike. I was looking at the ship pictures, they are some of the tightest shots I have seen with any lens.
How do you get so clear of shots with a manual lens? I have the SMC A 50mm 1.7 and I get about one clear shot out of 5 or 6, I even bought a catseye and still no go.

Try this series of exercises. Yeah, I know, practice with a camera?!!! But I can guarantee they work! I've got 58 yr old eyes, I don't have a Katzeye or other split ring focus screen, I rarely use my AF and I consistantly nail the focus if I've spent some time familiarizing myself with the lens. It doesn't take a lot of time maybe an hour or so twice a week at first to get the technique down and then maybe 1/2 an hour to one hour to get to "know" a new to you lens.
