"F--" error with Panagor 2x Teleconverter

I bided on a used Panagor Auto Teleconverter 2x on ebay and got it for $33. Received it today, but my k-r came with "F--" error (manual). Tried 3 different lenses and it was the same. None of my lenses has an aperture ring. What do I do?

Does the teleconverter have A contacts?

If so try giving them a good clean (both sides of the TC). Also give the body contacts a good clean

That TC has no A contacts, there is no way it will be able to work with lenses that have no aperture ring, sorry!

There is no "A" contact (see the second to last shot on the link you provided). Since none of your lenses have an aperture ring you can only shoot wide open with this T/C. If you hold the mount so that the aperture tang is at 12 o'clock the "A" contact will be at about 2 o'clock. The picture of that mount has no contacts at all.

Bonjour,

Definitely no "A" contact(s) to be seen in those lined photos ... sorry.

Unfortunately an Automatic converter is not the same as an A type converter. Even more unfortunate is that sometimes "Automatic" is abbreviated as A.

The seller did not mislead you.

Does anyone have recommendations on a TC which works for lenses without aperture ring? I would want to use it on the 200 F2.8 and the DAL 55-300

Keh lists 3 autofocus TC's ranging from $76 to $109; Pentax Autofocus Lens Converters - KEH.com

And a variety of "A" type TC's starting at $10. http://www.keh.com/Camera/format-35mm/system-Pentax-Manual-Focus/category-Le...c=79074&r=WG&f

I'd prefer autofocus, although A type would work ok with your lenses and manual focus.

You can get a TC that will "work" with the 55-300, ut results will virtually always be worse than simply cropping an image taken without the Tc, and cropping costs nothing, takes no space in the bag, doesn't cost a stop of loght, and doesn't adversely affect focusing. In every possible respect, you are better off *not* using he Tc with the 55-300. The 200/2.8 mau be another matter, though.
