There is a cheaper 28 2.8 than the Distagon which is better than the K 28 3.5 but will need some work on it to fit pentax - Nikkor Ai/Ais 28 2.8
I was about to mention the nikkors Nikon mount can be adapted.
And yes the Zeiss Distagon 28/2.8 is a very good lens, worth every cent, not just for landscape.

in addition: Takumar 28/3.5 and 35/3.5

Anyway, if mount is not a problem, nikkor 28/3.5ais, 28/2ais, Olympus 28/3.5.
K28shift had been mentioned, but my fav is nikkor 28/3.5PC

No mount change:

I'd be interested to hear why you think not Hoan.

It is by far my best landscape lens, cut your throat sharp from corner to corner and the lovely Zeiss rendering throughout. Of course at 28mm there is virtually zero distortion of any kind too.

The K or M 28/3.5.

By choosing NOT to go faster, the lens appears sharper from its widest aperture.

Yes but only in the center, corners are getting sharp after F5.6 at F8.0 to F11. 3.5 versions have less aberations than 2.8, distortion is ok... there is distortion but for the price it is ok. I bought my M 28 3.5 for 55$. If you are after the smallest 28mm than 2.8 is your lens, the 3.5 versions especially the K are bigger! The Takumar 28 3.5 - not a good one, very soft in corners.

I think you misread Hoan's remark.
He wrote 'not just for landscape' ...
He didn't write 'just not for landscape'

I have this lens and love it. I wrote: 'not just for landscape', and it is also for anything else
All Zeiss lenses has some kind of black rending that just bring the contrast of the subject out from the remaining.
In my opinion, they are among of few lenses that post processing is not needed.

BWT the Biogon 28/2.8 in contax G mount has the same quality - awesome lens.
