3 lenses. A WR kit lens, da40 limited, and an A 50mm f2.0.

I would like to get a da15 and da70 (or fa77), but with the higher prices I am unsure if I will .

Rio, have you just summed it up right there? 5 categories of lenses.
Ah, well if it's CATEGORIES you want, I can probably come up with a taxonomy of glass, a clean Linnean nomenclature (class-order-family-genus-species-etc) scheme. Hay, I once wrote a keyed field guide to cacti; lenses shouldn't be much harder. Indicators might include:

* Optics: refracting; reflecting; both; pinhole; zone.plate; other
* Optics: primary (camera lens); auxiliary (adapter, TC, etc); other
* Focal length: fixed (prime); variable (zoom, varifocal); none
* Focal length: normal; [ultra]wide; [ultra]long; none
* Projection: rectilinear; fisheye; other
* Aperture: manual; auto; both; none
* Aperture: iris; Waterhouse; other; none
* Focus: manual; auto; both; fixed; none; other
* In-lens motors: AF drive; stabilization; none

Et cetera. I'll work on this next time I'm awaiting surgery, bored.

I have only recently got my 3rd lens. Given I have been practising photography for 3, nearly 4 years now, and my 3rd arrived last week, where do I fit into this? I may be an exception, seeing as I'm at least 3 years off adulthood...
I'd say you're moving at a pace that's right for you. When I was the age I assume you're at now, I had just one fixed-lens film camera (and I'd been shooting for a decade). I didn't start accumulating lenses and cameras until almost a decade later. And those are all gone now; what I have currently came in the last 4 years mostly. With my K20D, I started with just 3 lenses. It took at least 4 months to start getting more. How slow I was!

I'll suggest that a cheap and fun way to soak-up some LBA is with enlarger lenses (ELs). Using 60mm or longer ELs on a 16-35mm focusing helicoid (US$60), or 90mm or longer on a small bellows (~US$40), they reach infinity focus as well as working at macro distances. And they're VERY sharp and REAL cheap; virtually all mine were under US$10 each, and some were 4 for $10.

In other words: not to worry. Get nifty stuff when you want it and can afford it.

Don't think so. It does not change the count from same viewers.
the Takumar Club thread has over 1,000,000 views. Takumars are popular but I doubt there are over 1,000,000 different people looking at that thread.

If pushed, would categorise my LBA status as incipient but stable. Prognosis remains favourable whilst funding deficit persists!

Well in that case I move up category to 21-25 as my son has 4 lenses that I gave him, but sometimes borrow back, Not counting my non k mount lenses (FD medium format etc)

I'm worried. In the week since I originally voted I have bought four new lenses. I must close my ebay account.

Now now, that's the wrong attitude. It should be, "Hay, another 4 lenses! Only 300 more to go!"

A new lens every week. The 1st criteria: cheap, 2nd criteria good.

Three of them were cheap...

The one that wasn't has proved it's good in many hands before mine. The others still have to prove themselves.

Part of the fun is hunting for bargains, or quality items/ hard-to-find, very cheap or cheaper than average.
I am in the category: 'cannot say no to cheap, good, hard-to-find',
and definitely can't say no when it combines with a "very" word in front like 'very cheap', and/or 'very good'

Ah, time for a re-run of my lens-buying guidelines:
  • If it costs less than a sandwich or burger, grab it.
If it costs more than a supreme pizza, think hard about it.
If it costs more than a fine dinner out with your partner(s), ask here about it.
    .
  • Bid low. Bid often. Lose 99% of auctions. Don't worry, another will come along shortly.
    .
  • One can never have (enough | too many) lenses.

that lens is a gateway drug not a chance it will be long before the next lens, soon you will be hunting through dusty old junk shops hoping to find an a 50 1.2 for $15 attached to an LX meanwhile buying anything you do find to see what it's like compared to.....

yeah, there is that too ) I found the 44-2 at an antique bazaar, which I explored at the same time, on a stand which sells hundreds of old gems every sunday. at first I was buying three lenses; along with the 44-2, one russian lens 37mm f2.8 with a lotta blades, and a m39 jupiter 50mm with more lotta blades but I had to strain and restrict myself and only bought the helios. I might go there again, but just not anytime soon )

I'd very much like to have one 50mm 1.2 tho. I am just obsessed with them and one day I will own one of them.
